Stupid sXe question

I know edge people don't drink, but how do they feel about alcohol used in cooking? I was thinking about this the other night as i ate a meal that had a fair amount of wine in the recipie. I know the alcohol gets cook off and just adds flavor, but I didn't know if it was forbidden territory.

Stupid question, i know. But it got me thinking.

Ive always heard that the alcohol is all cooked out, but I personally dont oder things like the "Jack Daniels" items at T.G.I.Fridays. I dont really know why. I dont think its a sXe thing. I think I figure I dont want to taste it in a glass so why taste it on food. I have a friend that is sXe and she enjoys the JD cooked foods so to each their own.

The boiling point of alcohol is a little over 172 degrees farenheit. So if what ever you're eating was cooked at a higher temperature than that (and I can't imagine any food cooked below that temperature), there will be no alcohol left in the dish.

I not unkind to a little bit of red wine used to flavour a steak, but that's when I don't have a choice, as in, I'm not the one cooking it. If I was, I'd choose not to use it either way. But it's not that big of a deal. You aren't consuming it (directly) to become intoxicated or change your state in any way and I doubt it's that harmful to your body in such an amount, and yes, it's more than likely all cooked off anyways.

I'd guess it comes down to the mindset of the sxe'er in question. If they have a legitimate desire to rid themselves of impurities or influences that cloud judgement or whatever then they shouldn't have a problem with liquor thats had all of the etoh (actual alcohol) boiled off. If they're one of those straight edgers that's surrendered reason to their religion then I'd expect them to act like any other fundamentalist- irrationally and willing to do whatever their doctrine decrees.

edit- reading that, it seems sort of "hardline", chalk another post up to alcohol.

I generally don't find that there's much food that I'm aware of cooked with alcohol... though I do eat alot of Chinese food and they have a tendency to cook with mirin, a cooking wine. I've been known to enjoy the Tofurky bratwurst too, so it's not a real big deal to me. I've also used a Chinese herbal concoction called Shou Wu Chi that's basically herbs mixed in what amounts to vodka, for medicinal purposes. Alot of straight edgers wouldn't be into that, but I'm not so sure it would be a big deal to all.

The thing about straight edge is there's a great deal of room for individual interpretation when it comes to anything that isn't covered in Minor Threat's song "Straight Edge."

If you don't mind me asking of course.....

Have you ever noticed how crayons are a lot like M&M's? All the colors tend to taste the same.

but yeah, i knew some kids that wouldn't take pain killers.

Hahaha.... BD was 'TRUE TIL 21' :)

I take medacine when I'm sick. Ive never been a big fan of taking pills so I have to really be sick or in pain or whatever, but I'm not stupid so I'm not going to sit there and suffer just because I'm sXe.

If someone thats edge doesnt take pain killers would they accept anesthesia when having an operation? Sorry... Im just being stupid now!
