If memory serves me correctly, they didn't break up. I think Raybeez passed and that was the end of the band. I know someone who can get more details for sure.

H2O played a memorial show for him on OCT 4th 1997. He must have past in the summer.

i have a tape at home of one of the benefit shows at cbgb for Rabies after he died.
it is 25 ta life, Madball, Murphys Law and Agnostic Front (right after getting back together) evan of Biohazard is doing security at the stage, and The singer of Killing Time comes out and sings Fools Die with Madball. A really great tape all in all.

pardon me for asking, but what exactly did Ray die from?
I heard it was pneumonia or something.

Warzone was a great band. Don't forget the Struggle was a killer album. I went to see them play in London Ontario, but they did not get over the border. Too bad, because about 3 months later Ray passed away. That was so long ago now, time flys.

pneumonia I was told he had no health insurance and it started as a cold that was untreated. I saw them in spring of 1996 for the last time.

^^^^ I have no idea but maybe I'm too scene to say this but he was straight edge. He preached the lifestyle and broke free from drugs way back in the day. I looked at him as a positive influence, but all I knew was the records he put out. I never new him.

If he was into heroine I lost all respect. Seriously. I hate being lied to.

About the whole edge thing, I read an interview with Parris Mayhew some time last year. He said Ray was full of shit, and was still doing drugs all the time. Parris claimed that Ray was snorting some coke right in front of him, and than asked that Parris not tell anybody.

Whether that's true, I don't know. Could be true, or maybe Parris was just talking shit because Ray is revered as a hardcore god and Mayhew ain't.

My understanding is that Ray had a lot of issues with addictions. Apparently he was quite serious about being sXe, but kept falling back into old habits. He would clean up, get sober and then fall back into old routines after a while. This, of course, is second hand information, but being someone with addictive troubles myself, I can see how that could happen. Addictions tend to get the better of people sometimes, that's the problem with them.

I know Ray wrote a ton about being addicted and reclaiming his life and I thought that held more water than say Karl Earth Crisis since Ray actually knew what addiction was like and Karl was only living it for the lifestyle. Not to diss Karl for convictions I just always looked to experience as the true voice.

This issue of abuse would make the death by sickness more believeable. I always thought his death by being sick was a little far fetched but it does happen I guess. Its all sad whatever the case. They had some great records and awsome shows.

FREE AT LAST
"I found it years ago trying to find it again, but if I fall I want let it be the end,I've heard people say they have no faith in me,Drink their alcohol smoke that dust, talk about me and their live are fucked, time has come to do whats right, don't want to live dead-lose the fight,
FREE AT LAST,FROM THE DRUGS I CRAVE,FREE AT LAST FROM THE ALCOHOLS DAZE,FREE AT LAST FROM THE PCP,FREE AT LAST FROM THE INSANITY.
so if I fall what will you do ? Cause what I need is a friend in you,I wonder if you'll laugh at me or help me to stay drug free, but if you choose to walk away and come back another day,I'll be gone to a better place and on my own I'll win the race, they'll be other friends who'll stick by by me,side by side for eternity, but if I must be alone and do it all on my own,I'll win the fight thats for sure in my heart I'll stay pure.
PERSEVERANCE-DEEP INSIDE ME-A MISSION-THATS MEANT TO BE-FIRE-BURNING IN MY SOUL-DRUG FREE-MY LIFES GOAL.

FREE AT LAST FROM THE DRUGS I CRAZE,FREE AT LAST FROM THE ALOCHOLS DAZE,FREE AT LAST FROM THE PCP,FREE AT LAST FROM THE INSANITY.

I think the split 10" / CD that they did with Cause for alarm was the best stuff that they ever released...it was CFA's best stuff too.IMO.

A close friend of mine is a recovering heroin addict... he spent time in jail for it, straightend out... got into hardcore and became straight edge... fell off, hit up the weed, and smokes... and now he's trying to get his edge back. I respect that dude immensely. I've never touched shit, and I think dudes struggling with addiction... and breaking away and maybe falling back but continuing to strive against it is far more honorable and praiseworthy than merely never touching the shit.

I always did think Ray had some issues with falling back... Throw me a line is a good case in point. At any rate, the dude gets mad respect for me and I never saw Warzone or met him... he's gone but never forgotten, that's for sure. Perhaps his struggles with addiction is why he never said "straight edge" in the songs I've heard... just "drug free" because of the stigma that straight edgers have attached to breaking and re-claiming. For me that's some gay-assed politics and "holier-than-thou" shit, struggling with anything is what's real not some contrived "immunity" from those sorts of temptations. Fuck that shit, and fuck those dudes.
