I feel like a discussion...the cervical kind

So who's gonna get their daughters shot up with the spiffy new "Cervical cancer vaccine"?

Who even believes the shit? Is it big news in the US? Front page of The Advertiser in Adelaide today: http://www.theadvertiser.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,593...

Its not really a vaccine for cancer. Its for Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which may lead to cervical cancer in a minority of women who manage to get HPV in the first place.

I think the PR for this shit is hilarious but so corrupt that people are buying it. My kid isn't getting done for this (or any other vaccine for that matter).

They are doing studies now to see how effective this will be in males. So if they are marketing it as a cervical cancer drug, why test it on men? Do we have cervix's I don't know about!!

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

HPV can cause other health problems other than just cervical cancer from what I understand. Some health problems that can affect men, so it makes sense to test it on men too.

And I know a girl who somehow got the strain of HPV that can cause cervical cancer and she had to have part of her cervix removed as a result. I dont know all of the details, but I know that now she can't have kids, so Im sure people like her could have benefited from a drug like this.

This is more than coincidental that this thread exists right now (at least for me. Best not to ask).

Quote:
It has been shown to be totally effective in protecting females from the two strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV), which cause 70 per cent of cervical cancers.

It also provides immunity against other strains of HPV linked to abnormal cell development in the cervix and genital warts.

sounds worthwile enough to me. if not for the cancer then for the warts. it's just a vaccine.
a friend of mine designs dna tests for hpv, i should ask him about it.

The vaccine is for 2 strains of HPV which might lead to cancer & 2 strains to protect against genital warts & lesions. There's something like 30 strainds of HPV.
Its another STD and safe sex can prevent these things, so why get mass immunisation?

I suppose I'm just biased, I haven't got my daughter any vaccinations and she wont be getting any unless she decides to as a teenager.

My sister in law has CIN 2 which is likely caused by HPV and my wife is still not interested in doing this for our kid.

Their claims of 100% effectiveness is false too, thats only for like 7 months of the study. By 2 years it was 97% effective. Way to be a long term success...not. Imagine how effective it will be after 10-20 years, you'll need to get boosters all the time.
