The world of MAC
Influenced by trendy marketing and TV ads i've just purchased a Mac g5 power PC. It is a pimping computer but the learning curve is pretty
interesting. I had no idea they operated so completley different than a PC.
I actually bought it because I run recording softwear and had one too many crash's on my PC.
Any other mac nerds out there?

I have one or two PCs that I use on occasions for very specific tasks, but have used Macs primarily... well, since I was a kid. I've been using both
for so long, I don't really think too much about the differences. What have you been most surprised by so far?
I assume you already have the machine in your possession? If so, I'm sorry to say that the machine became obsolete, ummm... about 28 minutes ago.
Apple has spent the last year transitioning their line up of machines from a PowerPC to an Intel architecture (same processors as most PCs), and is
announcing the last of those new machines during the Apple Developers Conference key note, which started at 10am Pacific time. You can read the live

I'm not trying to be a dick, and obviously, 'obsolete' is a strong word being used for effect, but i just wanted to make sure you know whats going on.
Apple has been slashing prices on those machines, so I'm sure you got a good deal. The machine you have will last for years, and all software
currently being written for the new Mac architecture will also work on what you have (they're called 'Universal' apps). But if for some reason you
were unaware of this transition, or feel that having the most up to date and future-proof machine is important, I'd contact Apple TODAY. They have a
narrow window for returns that are not flaw-related.
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

I am aware that this machine is "obsolete" but if I had purchased another PC it would be the same story. I paid about a thousand dollars less than
list price so I made out really well and this machine will run my recording softwear for years to come with no issues. I'm not even sure what the
intel processer does so it's hard for me to make judgements. I do know that my machine is expandable to allow for faster speeds and I also know that
macs aren't the kind of computer that become outdated all that quickly.
I'm happy with my machine and for the record...just because Apple says they've got the latest and greatest on their new computers doesn't mean it is
the latest and greatest. Keep in mind they are the masters of marketing product which means they want you to buy their new one.
My machine is only a few months old anyway.

i joined the mac geek squad back i november of '05. G5 iMac and I love using it to edit videos. Great thing. I didn't find the learning curve all
to hard. I actually forget how to do a lot of things on the PC that I could tell people by heart before (AIM transfers, where they go, etc...most
people don't know anything about sending files).
