Obesity in America

This is fucking scary. Normally this goes to the Resulution forum but I felt this needed some more exposure.

Just frightening:

The BMI scale is shit. Not that Im disputing that obesity is on the rise, but there's gotta be a better way to determine who is obese and who isnt.

I totally agree. I am about 12% Body fat and the BMI scale tells me I'm "overwieght". I am 5 foot 10 inches and 179. There is a countin calorie site I go to that told me I should weigh 154. It's is crazy.

Im not fat, but if I keep up with the laziness I will be. Im definitely not as thin as I used to be. I used to think I could never gain weight.

Man, I was the same way. Then I turned 25 and my metabolism just stopped. Then three years ago I had to buy dress pants for work. I went in and had to squeeze into 35 inch waist pants. I was so depressed. As of about 2 weeks ago, I'm in 32 inch waist shorts. I don't think 32 pants will fit yet.

There was an exit ramp by my old apartment that I would take to get home after work. It was bumpy and I could feel myself giggle when I drove on it. It took me about 2 or 3 years to do something about it. I would just let it bum me out. Then I'd go drink myself stupid.

I had been a 31/32 waist for a long fucking time. Then all of a sudden they dont fit so well anymore. I was in denial for a while and tried to keep wearing the same pants, but it got to be uncomfortable so I sucked it up and bought 34 waist. They fit much better, but I still havent thrown away my 32s. Im trying to keep hope alive!

I find my motivation works in cycles. I look at myself in the mirror, look at an old picture of myself and say "what the fuck happened". I stop eating crap, watch what I eat a little closer and try to work out a bit. A few weeks go by, I feel as though Im doing well so I deserve to treat myself. I have some crap food from time to time... eventually turning into all the time. Repeat cycle.

Anything smaller than 36 in waist is uncomfortable for me... I could do 34, but I hate it. I'm like 5'11" and 205.

Bye Bye BMI?

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/14483512/from/RS.5/

Fat stored in the belly "is the most dangerous type of fat in our bodies," explains Dr. William Castelli, director of the Framingham Cardiovascular Institute.
