Giving back

So, after BD's thing for his daughter and everybody talking about doing what they can to give something back, I took some time to think of some ways I can do that. Then this fell in my lap as several people I know around here asked me to volunteer along with them, so I am. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a bitter and jaded jerk, but if something I do can help some kids and maybe work towards finding a cure someday then maybe this world won't be such a terrible place, maybe the world my daughter grows up in can be a little bit better than what it is now. If you can help at all, it would be greatly appreciated. Go to https://www.mdaevent.org/ParticipantInfo.aspx?j=9a590977-b3e... and give whatever you can.

Thanks.

Good for you, Saint. I was just preparing an update on our March of Dimes efforts as well. Do you know anyone who suffers from muscular dystrophy, or is this just something you're doing with your friends? I don't really know the first time about the disease - except that there are like a million variations of it.

is there an actual event that you participate in, like a walk or run or something?
other that jerry and his telethon, that is.

I have an acquaintance who has it, but that really didn't enter into it. I just feel like it's been quite a while since I've done much for society other than bitch about it. I really hope that I can make some kind of difference for somebody.

There is an event going on, but it's not quite as active as a walk or anything. They do a "lock up" where we are supposed to be asking friends and family for "bail money" to meet our goal. That's on the 26th here in Durango, I think it's different days for different areas though.

Thanks a ton for your interest and support Big Guy.

Good on ya Saint! I have a very good friend who passed after making it 6 years more than the docotrs gave him. By the by, he met Jerry and said he was kind of a dick? Go figure. If people don't have money to give, give up some free time and volunteer, there are so many worthwhile causes out there that really need all the help they can get. I volunteer with St Marys hospital for severely disabled children, let me tell you, it really opens your eyes to alot. I am actually bound by legal obligation not to speak about alot of what I have learned being there, but I will say this much, alot of the kids I work with became the way they were because of physical abuse and neglect in their formative years, shaken baby and horrible shit of that nature. It really pays off to go there and do little things that make a HUGE difference for these kids.

Thanks RV and Voodoo, I am glad to see people making an effort in whatever way they can. While the whole Posi, boy scout shit annoys me, I do appreciate the efforts of people who want to improve this hellbound planet.

Thanks again to everybody so far, just wanted to let you all know that tomorrow is the day I go in for the event and anything that anybody can do to help out between now and then would be greatly appreciated. So far I've only raised a small portion of my goal, I have promises of more coming, but it's not there yet. I don't know if it will still go in on this event after tomorrow, but if anybody still wants to donate afterwards, I'm sure they would put it to great use.

My sister has 4 kids. 3 dads, 4 kids. I don't talk to my sister that much. Well, pretty much ever. Either way, her youngest (Kalib) is autistic. Cool kid though about 4, funny as shit when he throws a fit, falls down an slams his head into the ground as hard as he could. Ha. Anyway, the first 2 years he developed mentally real slow. The last year and a half though he's been in a school for autistic children and is doing awsome. He never used to talk, a word here and there etc. Now he's doing so great it's really neat to see, full sentences, he can now articulate verbally what he wants and doesn't, it's really neat to see the advances when they (some autistic children) get the proper help/schooling. Anyway I'm babbeling, either way, I don't talk to my sister an she moved away like an hour but when I found out the school he went to I send a $20 check every month to the school, they won't know anyway cause his last name isn't the same as mine, but any of those kids deserves a little more then most people and they really can grow up at least "half normal".

So at the event on Thursday they told me that my link will still be good for thirty days meaning that as of today, there are twenty eight days left for me to try to reach that goal of 1200 bucks. Thanks again to everyone who has helped out in any way.

BD, I'm not sure how many there were. The lock up was a bit of a let down, I was under the impression that they were going to give us some way to help raise a bunch more money while we were there, but basically we just checked in, gave them any donations we had on us, and ate some lunch. I managed to scrape about 11 bucks outta my coworkers before I went and so I handed that over and they double checked my online contributions up to that point. All told, that day I had 151 bucks. Not so hot when the goal is 1200, but I'm still trying.
