Slumlords t-shirt design for CSM contest
Crime Scene Merch is having a contest to design a shirt for a band on their site. I figured I would give it a shot. I decided to do a Slumlords design
because out of all the bands I could choose from I know thier stuff the most. I've decided to post my design process just to show how I go about
coming up with the design. Ive got 3 stages done so far so take a look and let me know what you think of it. Im always open for comments and
critiques. Here it is.
Stage 1
I decided to go with the slogan "Our Own Worste Enemy" because I felt I had the best chance of coming up with a design for the slogan. I did a rough
outline of a skinhead ( who will be holding a gun under his chin) and his other arm pointing to his head to symbolize his crazy mental state. The face
was taken from a page of faces I was fucking around with.
Stage 2
I added a gun and went into more detail in the boots and legs. Im happy with how its turning out so far so I decide its time to take it into
Illustrator.
Stage 3
I brought the back leg to the front and the front to the back so it seemed more balanced. I live traced the design in Illustrator and brought it back
into Photoshop and added in some thicker lines then back into Illustrator to Live Trace again and back to photoshop, I will continue this until im
happy with it. I also added an Iron Cross in the background to help frame the Skinhead. I might fill in the iron cross with a design but im not sure
yet. I also added the text (which im still going to play around with)

Have to agree. The iron cross doesn't suit the Slumlords at all.

I don't think you'll need anything if you do somthing with the slumlords text, the reason it looks so off balance is because its just floating above
it in space. You have a rediculously cool drawing thats being cheaped up by bad text above and below...get that stuff out of there and draw some cool
text in above and below.

ok, I was thinking about putting a keg in there and the tube wrapped around his arm and him holding the spout in his hand with beer dripping down his
face but I might be adding to much. I still have awhile before the design has to be submitted so I'll work on creating my own font. I appreciate the
advice.

I suggest perhaps a brick wall and the Slumlords logo as like graffiti on said wall...
