BORAT

The movie was sold out the whole day on saturday, but me and lori got our tickets before they did...

If this is not the funniest movie ever, I don't know what is. Seriously. If you watch this movie and don't laugh, you have not one once of a funny bone in you.

I have to see this

Each aspect of the soul has it's own part to play, but the ideal is harmonious agreement with reason and control.

I saw it last night. It was good. Lots of recycled jokes from his show, but it was still funny. I also had a hard time figuring out what was staged and what wasn't. I dont want to spoil any of the movie, so maybe we can have more of a discussion after more people see it.

When Stewart admits he's a jew to Borat..............damn that is some funny shit! Funniest thing is, Cohen is actually Jewish, so all those screaming anti semite need to do their homework. What a lovely concept this guy has going. I want to see it but will wait for the hype to die a bit for fear of full theatres.

His act can really expose people for the idiots and scum they are, and it's both hilarious and scary at the same time. There was an episode on his show where he goes to a country bar down south somewhere and starts singing a song and the chorus is something like "throw the jew down the well". He ended up getting the whole bar to enthusiastically sing along with him. I think the video for that is on youtube, or at least it used to be at one point.

WARNING- POSSIBLE MILD SPOILER

I thought the movie was hilarious but lost a bit in the transition from 5 minute skit to full length movie, I guess a plot was neccesary but I personally prefer the actual one on one jackassery to the scripted bits. I kept wondering which bits were scripted and which were real, particularly the "marriage sack" and the fight scene spilling over into the mortgage brokers convention (which was pretty fuckin' funny). Some of the funniest stuff I saw was the outtakes that didn't actually make the movie.

I need to see this bad.... G4TV had an episode of Icons this week profiling Cohen. Brilliant shit. The next thing for him is apparently a mockumentary about his gay character.

Anyone see the press conference that Borat held in front of the Kazakhstan embassy in DC where he declares that Kazakhstan's press secretary isn't really the press secretary and that if Uzbekhistan doesn't "stop these attacks" Kazakhstan will be "forced to use military intervention." Too funny.

People I have talked to who saw the movie said it wasn't that good. Possibly expectations set too high. Oh well, I can't wait.

Weird, I have not heard anyone not loving this movie. Kid at work I wouldn't expect to be a fan said he say it and said it is the funniest movie he has ever seen. not just saying that, is really THE FUNNIEST.

Humiliated frat boys sue 'Borat'

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061110/ap_on_en_mo/film_borat_l...

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Two fraternity boys want to make lawsuit against "Borat" over their drunken appearance in the hit movie.

The legal action filed Thursday on their behalf claims they were duped into appearing in the spoof documentary "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," in which they made racist and sexist comments on camera.

The young men "engaged in behavior that they otherwise would not have engaged in," the lawsuit says.

"Borat" follows the adventures of comedian Sacha Baron Cohen's Kazakh journalist character in a blend of fiction and improvised comic encounters as he travels across the United States and mocks Americans.

The plaintiffs were not named in the lawsuit "to protect themselves from any additional and unnecessary embarrassment." They were identified in the movie as fraternity members from a South Carolina university, and appeared drunk as they made insulting comments about women and minorities to Cohen's character.

The lawsuit claims that in October 2005, a production crew took the students to a bar to drink and "loosen up" before participating in what they were told would be a documentary to be shown outside of the United States.

"They were induced to agree to participate and were told the name of the fraternity and the name of their school wouldn't be used," said the plaintiffs' attorney, Olivier Taillieu. "They were put into an RV and were made to believe they were picking up Borat the hitchhiker."

After a bout of heavy drinking, the plaintiffs signed a release form they were told "had something to do with reliability issues with being in the RV," Taillieu said.

The film "made plaintiffs the object of ridicule, humiliation, mental anguish and emotional and physical distress, loss of reputation, goodwill and standing in the community," the lawsuit said.

It names 20th Century Fox, a unit of News Corp., and three production companies as defendants.

Studio spokesman Gregg Brilliant said the lawsuit "has no merit."

The plaintiffs were seeking an injunction to stop the studio from displaying their image and likeness, along with unspecified monetary damages.

"Borat" debuted as the top movie last weekend with $26.5 million.
