Attention everyone

Gabe Texas has admitted that he is an Irish Mexican, so he can try to fit in better with all the white bread on the board....
so from this day forward he shall be know as McSpic and needs to have his user name changed to reflect it...

i got a question for everyone

why all a sudden has the general population decided to start calling Jobs - Internships (usually where the original meaning of the word doesnt even apply)... that term used to only apply to Medical Students.

Internships are generally low- or no-pay jobs meant to give people a chance to learn more about a particular profession. If that person belongs to an institute of higher learning, there may be some educational credit applied as well. My blue collar friends seem to call them apprenticeships, although I think apprentices make more.

When I was in college I interned at an ad agency doing creative production work and at a skateboard company doing ads and board graphics.

These days though, with the economy being what it is, I know a number of people who had been in the workforce for 10 years, got laid off, and wound up taking internships. They were either looking to get started in a completely new field or were hoping that interning could lead to a full-time position.

Now... If you're asking as a dig because I sent you a whole big ol' list of banners that need making, we need to talk! ;)

Mrs. Moron is going for her BA in nursing, and instead of internships she does EXternships. Fucking weird. I hate that fucking term, but we've kind of decided that it's called an externship because you dont get educational credit for it, and you're not required by the school to do it. It'll just make a resume look nicer I guess, plus you'll get more experience.

I still hate that fucking term though.

that sounds like a SUCKternship. is she getting paid?

I don't remember what it was called, but after my old roommate from college graduated from dental school, he went on to do another year of studies at another school. Granted, it was mostly hands on, and he got paid, but it was really only enough to get by on.

I think med students get it the worst. I recently had to deal with a bunch of highly specialized doctors, and one of them was telling me that she basically spent fifteen years studying AFTER college before she got into her field as a full time professional (meaning, no longer a 'student'). I guess you've got medical school, internships, fellowships, etc, all helping to focus you on these extremely specific segments of the medical field.

Have you ever noticed how crayons are a lot like M&M's? All the colors tend to taste the same.

yeah. she gets paid for the externships. You pretty much get the shaft though, and you do all of the stuff that the nurses dont wanna do. At least that's the case where she is right now. She's looking to find a different place for this summer.

Now her CLINICAL experience gets her school credit and is unpaid. That's set up by the school and all that fun stuff.
