This is the kind of news the media SHOULD focus on

NEW YORK (AP) -- Two passers-by rescued a toddler who fell four stories, scrambling to catch him as he tumbled from a fire escape, police said.

Julio Gonzalez, 43, and Pedro Nevarez, 40, saw 3-year-old Timothy Addo dangling from a Bronx building on Thursday, police said. The boy had crawled out of a window when his baby sitter briefly took her eyes off of him, police said.

"He was hanging on for dear life," Gonzalez said.

Hearing people in the building scream for help as the boy's grip weakened, the men rushed over to position themselves under the fire escape to catch him.

"No one came," Nevarez said. "We knew it was up to us."

The boy tumbled and hit Nevarez in the chest so hard he knocked him off balance, but he bounced into Gonzalez' arms.

Timothy was treated at the hospital for a cut on his forehead.

"He's fine. He's happy. He's smiling," said his mother, 26-year-old Katrina Cosme, who was working at the time of the accident.

Police talked to the baby sitter, and an investigation was continuing Friday, Detective John Sweeney said.

The crucial catch came two days after a bystander threw himself onto a Manhattan subway track to save a man who had fallen, and a day after three police officers delivered a baby on a Brooklyn subway platform.

"This is the week of heroes in New York," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.

If the media did focus on this sort of news you would see a lot more people starting to care about one another.

Well, its this place where nobody works, and the pigs don\'t give you any shit. Everyone smokes weed and gets drunk all day. Its a place where cunts like me and you can truly take it easy and relax. Know what I mean?

i saw a kid fall out of a window once when i was living in SF. it was the middle of the day down in the mission. i was stepping out of my car, and directly in front of me across the street this kid just came flying out of a third floor window like he was a stunt man or something. there happened to be a cop at the traffic light so i grabbed him and he just ran shit. the kid lived - he was surprisingly ok all things considered - but it was definitely fucked. that said, it wasn't quite as fucked as the time a real jumper landed on the sidewalk in front of my wife at 39th & 5th in manhattan. that was fucking shocking.

If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

I saw this today. I see good people are still around.

Unfortunately this shit's not nearly common enough. Our world is fucking coming apart... be it war or crime... we do need some heroes though and it's nice to see stuff like this.

Maybe not on as grand a scale or quite as dramatic, but there is good out there everywhere you look................you just have to look for it, and the media dosen't help by focusing on the things they do. You would be surprised how good the world still is if you just focused on it. Hard to do I know but it's not impossible. If you really want to feel good donate some time to a worthy cause, you can usually find good hearts within these kinds of places. I volunteer for St Marys home for disabled children and Special Olympics and I LOVE what I do, it's almost like reenergizing your batteries once all the sludge your fed on a daily basis wears them down, I always walk out with a smile and have a good story to tell my wife. It's nice.
