i know we've done the 'what kind of car' thing before, but...
does anyone here have a truck? if so what kind, what year, how many miles, what problems have you had, etc? i think i might want a truck.

93 GMC 1500 4X4 extended cab. It has a 350 V-8 engine with around 165,000 miles and is still running strong. Its an older truck so you have the wear
and tear that any older vechicle goes through. That thing is tough as hell, I was going home on night after work and a 200 lb hog jumped out in front
of me, I hit it doing about 60. Only damage was that the license plate got ripped off. I have only two gripes about it:
1. That type of truck goes through brake pads quickly which only sucks if you have to change them yourself like I do.
2. Keeping it full on gas, this is also only an issue because I'm driving alot. I live 20 miles from the nearest town.

I don't have one now, but I've had a couple in the past. On of my favorite vehicles I've ever owned was a 1988 Ford F-150. That thing was a beast and
so much fun to drive. I had the extended cab and so there was still a back seat (very useful with kids around). The only drawback I see to trucks is
gas mileage with these prices now, but I think some of the newer ones are a little better on that count. Oh, there's also the fact that everyone you
even casually know will ask for your help every time they move.

good input so far, thanks.
we've only been out of the city for a year, and there have easily been a dozen instances where i could have used more room for moving things.
granted, our sonata has a HUGE trunk for a midsize car, but when you're talking dressers and heardboards and the like, you need something else.
do double cabs (four doors) have proper back seats, or are they glorified extended cabs? cause having room for the whole family will be important.
the next vehicle in our family will definitley be something that allows for more hauling, but i don't know if it'll be a crossover (one of those
mini-suvs) or a truck. the latter would be a hard sell in my house. especially after having spent a week with the '07 santa fe as a loaner from
hyundai this fall.

The only thing bad about owning a truck is everybody asking you to help them move or haul shit for them.

My dad has always had trucks, had an old 80s GMC Sierra I think for a good 10 years then got a new standard/stripped down Sierra in the mid 90s for a
while. He got sick of that & got a new GMC a few years ago which some kid rammed & ruined lol. So he got another identical one so nobody could tell
haha.
He likes full bed trucks and the less computer shit in it the better. Tough he missed out, he bought a truck with AM/FM only, no CD or tape so now he
can't listen to his bagpipe tapes
I like the GMC Sierra line, runs in the family. They don't make trucks in Australia, its all El Camino style "utes" (utilities)...
A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s
a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal
favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

2006 Ford F-150 supercab, V-6 2wd. I love it!!!!!!!! Just about to pass 3000 miles on it and will change out the oil. As long as you keep up with the
maintenance you should get 150,000 milkes out of it easy.

voodoo, talk to me about the space in the backseat. the supercab isn't a full four door, is it?

no, it's got the suicide style doors that can only be opened when the front doors are open. The space is amazingly efficient. Kids can definitely sit
back there in comfort, adults can too but you wouldn't want to make any kind of long trip sitting back there as an adult. My wife and I were
completely confident when buying it that it would be fine for our daughter back there, if anything it's nice you can't open the door without mom or
dads door being opened first. I am VERY happy with this purchase.

oh yeah, the four doors do have a full back seat but the truck bed is shortened to the point where it's almost useless. Don't bother with the four
door if your looking at a truck to haul stuff. If your looking for a new one you can expect to drop around 30 grand or so on it. I didn't look at used
ones so not sure on the prices?

but you can still get a car seat back there and everything? i mean, if i buy a truck, it will not be the first choice for moving the family around
town, but i DO want the option to if need arises.
the shorter bed was a concern. one of the trucks i was looking at online, might have been he tacoma (sorry) had four doors plus an extended bed.

You can slap a car seat back there no problem. It's got regular bench seats, not those side facing jumper seats you might be thinking of. For all
intents and purposes it's a full sized back seat with ample room. Boooooo on the Tacoma

good to know that you can still get the kids in back without the four doors. that makes a huge difference - not just in keepign the bed full size,
but price, too.

I'd love to get a new Dodge Ram
But then again, I'd like to get allot of things I don't have cash for.
My friend Paulie has a 89 F-150 that has stood the test of time. His brother in law smashed the back of it up so he built his own bed out of wood. i
have to find some pics of this thing. He dropped in a 400 hp 302 and has it running to stacks behind the cab. You have to hear it. Mean is all I can
say.

You could always go with a long-wheel base as opposed to a short if you want a long bed and 4 doors.

That is ALOT of truck, may be kinda hard to navigate smaller streets and such, and you can add even more cost for the beast.

yeah, i looked at a four-door, extended bed online. i think that was the tacoma. it had nothing on the crew-cab F250 i saw some guy filling up
yesterday at the gas station. damn, that was a big truck. you get a lot of big trucks out here. i'm not necessarially looking for big, just
functional. i may go with a beater, i dunno. just doing my research now.
