We have iPod
So we went out shopping yesterday, just had to pic up more photos but ended up buying a bloody 30GB iPod 5th generation as far as I know.
Now my wife has an iPod and if I like it I'm getting an 80GB for myself.
Is the only way to view the album art through Now Playing? You can't browse through the Albums menu and see the art there beside the album name? Or
browse by art only?
Is there any player that just lets you dump folders from windows Explorer so you can have total control and not rely on ID3 tags so much to organize?
A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s
a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal
favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

I want one of these.
Each aspect of the soul has it's own part to play, but the ideal is harmonious agreement with reason and control.

So far I'm not convinced enough to get an 80GB other than the volume & capacity. The file management leaves me cringing and you'd think the alnum
menu would actually show the album art

i believe the only place you're goign to see the ablum art is when you're playing a track. you can't view your collection by album art. that would
be very processor intensive, and those things aren't THAT powerful (the iPhone, on the otherhand...)
as far as dumping files on to it like a hard drive...
attached the ipod and open itunes. one the page where all of your ipod's info is displayed, there should be an option for "mount as hard disc" or
something like that. selecting that option will display the ipod on your desktop, and it allows you to drag and drop whatever files you want to the
ipod while it is connected to your computer. if you do this though, you can't just unplug it and run, you gotta eject or unmount the ipod. search
apple's site, i'm sure you'll find out more.
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

Yeah I saw a FAQ that lets you use the iPod as a HDD to dump data on which I could use to dump mp3's also I imagine.
Bummer about not having a thumbnail view of the album art beside the album name in Albums view though. It would be like browsing a jukebox or your cd
collection, sometimes your not sure what you want to listen to but then see the artwork and be "oh yeah, this ones fucking great" haha.
I tested with my wife's last night and in Album view it sorts alphabetically, so 1 artist could have albums spread all over the list. I had to add
band name to the Album tag to make it sort nicer
I suppose if I do this I should be fine. Back to using ID3 tags I guess.

Yeh so I heard, no doubt iPod will never support it with the phone coming out.

yeah, you gotta have tidy id3 tags.
sorting albums by cover art is a feature on the newest version of itunes, and depending on the size of your library, it can really bog down a
computer.

Yeh I downloaded the latest 7.x yesterday so should be good, I like one of the views that make it look like a jukebox. So far only my wifes
collection & she's been ripping cd's all day, not sure if she got the album covers yet or not though.
I'm probably getting an 80GB and would be nice to have the cover in the pod if I can find half of them. I miss the audio section of cdcovers.cc and
the astalavista cd cover site pretty much blows. Though its easy enough to find covers in amazon, google images, revhq and the metal archives
With Vista coming, makes me want a Mac all over again lol.

for a lot of stuff, even some hardcore stuff, iTunes will download the album cover for you when you rip the CD.

yeah highlight the songs you want artwork for and right click and there should be a choice for "get album art" or something similar (new iTunes only).
iTunes gets all it's info from www.allmusic.com so if it's on there then iTunes will get it.

I have the Zen M Vision 30G media player. The thing is awesome. Its just drag and drop with the Zen organizer software. I put my bootleg flicks on
there, watch them and then dump them. The small picture is pretty clear and sound is amazingly good.
I had an Ipod and would never go back. My wife likes the Ipod, but only cause its the "in" player.
Windows Media Player provides the artwork if its in the data base. if not, you can download the 200X200 phot of the album from a search and drag it
right to the album...
