Primaries get so ugly as do all American elections. It is so sad to me that candidates talk so much shit and dish out some much dirt on each other.

chris is right. candidates more or less say whatever they want, get the negative (and often exaggerated or blatantly false) statement out there, then
if they get called on it, make a tiny retraction in the paper. it's like any accusation - once it's out there, pleople too often take it for truth.
best to ignore it as much as possible, then read up from a reasonably impartial source.
