Freemasons

Anyone know anything about the Masons? I know its a 'secret society' and that there are LOTS of really famous people that are/were Masons, but what is the deal with them? How does someone become one?

I had worked with a guy who claimed to have family involved with the masons. At first I was lead to belaive it was of religious signigfigance, but later got the idea it was more of a political influence. Dan Brown's Angels and Demons touches on this subject I think, I forget for sure being I read it years ago.
they also hold the arcitectural secrets to building churches and stuff....

Far too much to go into here. I would recommend reading:

The Temple and the Lodge - Michael Baigent & Henry Lincoln
In the Shadow of Solomon - Laurence Gardner
Genesis of the Grail Kings - Laurence Gardner
The Second Messiah - ??????? (I'll get back to you)

That's a good start and will lead you into other books. The first one may be of particular interest as it deals specifically with the founding of the US. Some good stuff in there on the architecture and layout of Washington DC.

I am interested. Have been recently invited into a lodge and well? I am nervous, but I hear alot of good things. the only way in is to have someone invite you in. Also to tell if you are legit it takes a secret to help distiguish if you are real? I still don't know what it is, but I heard it involves alot of memorization. Dude I know is really cool and will talk to you about anyhting but WILL NOT discuss anything involving his organization.

The "Art of Memory" is a big part of it, but the majority of rank and file Mason's have no idea what they are memorizing. It involves a lot of allegory. To really benefit from it you really need to wipe away any preconceived notions of God and the universe.

Yeah the History Channel did one on this awhile back most of the guys on the Discovery Channel one were on the History channel, although the latter was more interesting and had more information even though I missed most of it (had to sleep)

I do know the Masons started in time of King Soloman, it was the masons building his temple and latter started to build gothic cathedrals etc,. They were the ones with the tricks of the trade and the only way you could acquire information was if you were a member and knew the handshakes.

Freemasons essentially were the fathers of this country; 14 presidents were masons as well as other notable people in no particular order; Clake Gable, Dave Thomas (wendys), Wayne Newton, Albert of Albert and Costello, essentially all of the founders of the first wave of automakers, Ben Franklin, and many many more. They estimate their are 5million masons in the world today.

The bible that the president is sworn in on is of Mason origins and includes many mason scriptures and symbols.

As many know many masonic symbols appear on the dollar bill, and was mostly done by a mason and commisioned by Ben Franklin.

The Masons are as you know shrouded in mystery and have always been linked to murders, the Discovery one had a relatively detailed piece about an Italian banker who got banned from his Mason society because of starting a mason lodge called the blackfriars that deviated from Masonic ideology. Their was also an interesting bit on a murder during a ritual in LI where a guy is blindfolded and they were supposed to use blanks to hit cans around the guys head and knock them over by hand, however the guy doing the shooting used a real gun, killing him.

They are 33 degrees and the only way you can become a member is if you are invited to join by a member. Essentially every major city has one. And masons have deep ties in most governments worldwide, in Scotland you cannot become a judge without becoming a mason. Harry Truman who started the UN and CIA was a mason.

There's tons more information on these groups. There many sites dedicated to this for a breif summary check out infowars.com but take most of the conspiracy stuff with a grain of salt and read the books suggested earlier in this thread and form your own opinion. They certainly have extreme influential power and considering how out in the open they are, and how long they have been around, yet no one knows much about them can certainly make people believe they have commited murders and such to protect themselves.

I also find it funny how many presidents who claim to be highly devout christians (cough GW) yet the masons make you rethink everything about what religion preaches.

They blow it out of the water. But you can find all this out without becoming a Mason. Its pretty much an old boys club now, nothing whatsoever to do with the elevation of one's self and hence humanity.

I thought "From Hell" was really cool the way jack the Ripper was portrayed as a Mason. They have lodges in the wierdest of places with basically no markings and no activity at any time when people might be around to see. It acts as a brotherhood of sorts (male exclusive) I saw a t-shirt once that had the universally known symbol for Masons and it said "Am I my brothers keeper" Very interesting bunch, these masons.
