The Chinese dude on Miami Ink
I fuckin hate this guy. He can't even fuckin draw and he's got a tattoo apprenticeship. Besides I can't understand what the fuck he is saying. I
know the "scratcher vs real artist" debate has been done here before. But goddamn that dude sucks.

I heard ROGER MIRET is producing his bands first cd soon. The band was awful on the show.

Yeah its really disturbing how they're always teaching him to "draw"...the best part is it's teaching millions more people you dont need to be an
artist, just a lackey for a while to be a tattooist.

Yoji is Japanese, not Chinese. The only reason I point this out is because I have Japanese friends, and the worst thing you can do is call them
Chinese. I think he is an artist, he has displayed some talent, just not able to do the "standard" tattoo design stuff that they want him to. It's all
very formulaic. it is true that roger Miret is producing his bands first album and is actually going to be on a future episode of this show when he
comes to do it, I'm really looking foward to this and hope he brings his 32 with him, since they're all car guys. As far as REAL talent, Garver keeps
the tattoo aspect of that show interesting. I don;t bend over backwards to catch this show, but when it's on and I'm flipping, I'll watch it for a bit
and am usually not dissapointed.

Weren't they making this guy practice drawing flowers or somthing a while back? I'm sorry IMO if you have to practice drawing remedial elements of
tattoo compostions (or just basic drawing 101) before you can graduate from apprentice to artist, you're not an artist to begin with.
Everytime they've showed one of his peices on the show I've been mortified and I'm FAR from a tattoo snob...you should see some of the junk I've got.

ill say this for the 1000th time
90% of the people getting tattoos in shops are not doing large "artistic" pieces
it CAN be a learned skill to tattoo the average tattoo that most people get

Thats been my experience too. Very few tattooists operate at the level of all custom all the time.

you're right
very very few
i have worked in a shop for 2 years now
the owner of my shop owns 5 shops all toghther and has been in the business all his life as his father is a pretty famous tattooist
i am around many people who tattoo
while many of them have the skill to tattoo anything anyone would want, its just not the case as most people who are coming in to get tattooed are not
heavily tattooed and want small causual type things
not the large custom stuff that is seen on tv or that you or your friends may be getting
also, if anyone thinks miami ink is anything close to the workings of a real shop, you are mistaken
i watch the show here and there when i catch it but it is HEAVILY edited and they dont take one person off the street
not one
at this point you need to apply to get a tattoo there
you come at the king....you best not miss

I heard the shop is run for the show only, when they aren't filming all the artists are tattooing elsewhere.

yeah, you've gotta be a pretty big name to be doing custom work exclusively.
or a part-timer!
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

Not necessarily...the 2 guys that tattoo me only do custom work by appointment only, no flash at all, and no one outside of Memphis has ever heard of
them.

one of the girls who i get tattooed by does custom exclusively
it really depends on the type of shop one works at
"street shops" are at least 80% walk ins and small, "easy" stuff
anyway, back to my point, it is a craft that can be leqarned
ive seen it happen
period

Darren is cool, he used to work in Queens at Fat Cat Tattoos. He owns a shop now in Waterbury CT with Sean from Hatebreed.
Ami seemed cool the time we were in the shop, don't recall who else was there.
