how much $ is too much for a t-shirt?

i just went to check out clutch's merchandise,
(which is on merch.com)
their t-shirt are 19.99
long sleeves are 29.99
hoodies are 39.99

plus shipping...
which for one t-shirt was estimated at 6.55
and for two items was 9.50

i love clutch and all but thats just too much $ for a t-shirt.
i understand that this is a band that does not make tons of money,
so they count on money from selling merch.
but i am a guy who does not make a ton of money either,
so i cant see paying close to $27 for a t-shirt.

$20 is a MAX for me for a short sleeve (unless its some vintage rare shirt) I WOULD probably pay the shipping if I really wanted the Clutch shirt, but the longleeve and hoodie is WAY overpriced!

Funny, just a day or two ago I was looking at Clutch gear and came to the same (too expensive conclusion). Prices like that I only pay if I see the band, and even sometimes thats questionable.

I ahve a problem paying over $15 for a shirt. Seriously. Shipping ona shirt we all know is not that expensive. If a band allows that them they want to use the very people that support them.

I remember going to a show back in 93 or 94. It was Fear Factory, Clutch, Fudge Tunnel, and Sepultura. T-shirts were going for $40 and long sleeves were $60, and we're talking 13 or 14 years ago. No way I would pay that back then, no way I'd pay it now.

to be honset this is part of the reason def-star exists

the shirts are overpriced....but the sad thing is the band see's very little of the money
on a 20 dollar shirt sold thru those merch companies the band will maybe see 2-3 dollars a shirt

the band is usually paid in advace for the license to sell them
so the contat will read we'll print 1000 shirts pay you guys 2500.00 cash now

broke ass band takes the money
crappy merch company outsources printing overseas for next to nothing
and sell over priced t-shirts so the band doens't have to worry about it

we are tyring very had hard to change this way of thinking
our band get 4-5 a shirt profit and we sell for 10-12 and we are the ones making a 2.00 a shirt...
seems a lot more fair to me

I remember when the Bosstones were selling shirts at club shows for $10-$15 and then they opened for Aerosmith at the Garden and they had the match the merch price of Aerosmith so the same shirts were $40+. Its insane, but like Steve said, to many people have their hands in there and each one takes out money! Even the vevues take a % sometimes!

I remember SWORN ENEMY HATBREED and E TOWN CONCRETE also RINGWORM selling shirts for $30 simply becasue MOTROHEAD would not allow them to sell them lower. Motorhead wanted that price and didn't want fans to decide on another bands shirt because they were cheaper.

I bought them cheaper at 12 dollars a hit from SWORN ENEMY and ETOWN after the show,.:P
