are mattresses really designed so that they need their corresponding box spring? i mean, it seems logical, but also seems like it could be a scam.

we recently spent a pile of cash on cal king mattress and boxspring set. once we got it up on our platform bed, it was like four feet in the air. it's wicked comfortable, and we've already spent the money, but my wife needs a friggin step stool to get in. i'm debating pulling the boxsprings, but i don't wanna fuck up the mattress. for what it cost, it better last a long time.

The box spring is designed to work ie manufactured with the support to make the mattress coil system work effectively. Also the manufacturer will void the warranty if you separate them.

However, a platform bed should not have a box spring on top of it. It is designed to ONLY have the mattress. This is why it is so talla nd to be honest you should not the boxspring.

Every reputable manufacturer has a patented coil system the claims to be superior to one another. SO the studies also show that since every coil system is different then the boxsprings have to be designed to meet the mattress coils needs as well. Think of putting a FORD f 250 4x4 top on a honda civic frame. It will not work effectively or at all.
Contact the manufactuer or look at the warranty card to see if it says anything of a FOUNDATION. That is what your platform bed is called in mattress sales terms.

It may still carry a warranty.

I suggest taking the boxspring out because your bed is too tall and can cause injury if falled out of. Plus a platform bed looks better when it is lower.
