Are you "in the know?"
How many of you guys keep up with what shows are going on where and when, especially in your area?
When I started posting on here I was kind of keeping up with what was going on in the Philly scene and buying records alot... now I don't have the
time or inclination. If find that I no longer really even care if I miss a band that I'm really into.
So do you guys keep up with things or do you just not and find out about stuff that you actually care about if it comes up?

I lost "the know" about new bands & new releases a long time ago haha, I'm out of the loop about just about everything hardcore related.
All I know is when good bands tour Adelaide & that's it, even then I miss half the notices. When i hear Sick of it All or Slayer are touring, thats
as "know" as I get lol.
A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s
a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal
favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

depends on what kind of bands you're talking about. We have 2 different scenes here...one is the faggy nu core crowd which I know nothing about. The
actual hardcore scene...I keep up with all the shows, goings-on, etc.

Whatever you consider to be hardcore. All I know is that I'm not keeping up with shows much at all and I'm not really caring about going anymore.

welcome to parenthood.
the vast majority of what i'm "in the know" regarding is what i read here from you people. i also hit punknews and lambgoat once a day.
i have bought a few records recently, but only after selling a bunch. very little of it is new; just filling in holes inthe collection.
most of the new music i've been turned on to lately has either come from the christmas cd exchange or, ironically, boycott.
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

| Precisely what I was thinking. When my daughter lived with me, I didn't do much of anything show-wise.
Before she was born I was out all the time. It didn't matter much who the bands were, but I was always at the shows if there was something good. Once
she came around it had to be a flat out guarantee that it would be an amazing show or there was no chance in hell I was gonna care. On top of that, I
didn't even bother to pay attention to what was going on or coming soon and I had been the guy my friends could check with to see if something good
was coming through town.
As for now, there's only one band that comes through this tiny town that I care about at all and that's not even remotely HC, it's Drag The River. If
they come through, I'm there. As far as local shows, there's a total of three local bands that I care about at all and one of those is a band my
roommate is in and they've only played one real show so far anyway. Other than that the nearest place I can see anything worthwhile is Albuquerque and
that's three or so hours away. The next closest place is Denver and that's about six hours in perfect conditions. I'll keep tabs on a few bands and if
they hit Albuquerque I'll think about going and then there's a VERY slight chance that I'll go. If they're only hitting Denver it's pretty much a case
where I think "that'd be a nice show to see" and that's the end of it. I've been to Denver once since I moved here and I saw Hudson Falcons while I
was there, but only because I happened to be in town for work with free transportation and a place to stay.b

I like to find about new bands and old bands I might have missed. What I don't pay attention to is the drama/rumors and bullshit that run rampant in
essentially every scene. With that said, it annoys me to no end when people act like nothing good has come out since 88. I agree the hardcore/metal
scene has been complacent with it's past achievements, but when a band does something completely different they are shit on. You can't be hardcore if
you don't do A, B, and C. That's bullshit. There is actually a lot of great, and even in instances ground breaking bands.

I only look for the bands I care about. I do not look for new bands or wnat to try and see anything new. I don't have time.
Each aspect of the soul has it's own part to play, but the ideal is harmonious agreement with reason and control.

We had a decent messageboard here that kept me up on the doin's transpirin', but that 's been down for about a year and I'm totally out the loop, I've
got to book a show soon too so I gotta' start tracking people down. Brian/Dave/Johnny, any new venues as of late or is The Speakeasy it?
Well, its this place where nobody works, and the pigs don\'t give you any shit. Everyone smokes weed and gets drunk all day. Its a place where
cunts like me and you can truly take it easy and relax. Know what I mean?

I don't have any clue about shows these days as I really don't care. I don't enjoy going as much as I did when I was younger. If a band I really
like is touring I might check and see if they're playing here. Local shit I really don't care about. Certain bands I'll always go see, but those are
few and far between.
Most of the albums I buy these days are older ones. There aren't too many newer bands I buy shit from.

a little bit, but for the most part no. There are, like many here, too few bands I could give a shit about seeing these days as I have way more
responsibilities to take care of.

I pay attention, but that doesn't mean I make it out. Like, Long Island has a few good shows very often, but I am not going out of my way. I make sure
I hit all my friends' bands shows. Like I went out to NJ to see D9 cause of some very large bassist I am friends with.
The Superbowl is a must and big shows like GB last summer.
With a wife, kid, 3 jobs and a band, its hard to get out like I was 16-17 years old again.....

See, I even skipped out on GB and I had tix. I just wasn't feeling it. Not complaining or anything... shit, I don't even miss it. I got none of my old
friends around, and that always makes shows more fun. I just don't care.
What's the fucking point in going to show to see a band I might be into if I'm just going to get kicked in the nuts... or, given recent trends,
fucking killed?!?!

exactly
my friend went to a show on friday in philly and some fsu kid purposely elbowed him in the face breaking his nose. just to be an asshole. when he
confronted the kid, he says you shouldnt have been standin there. kid wouldnt have been so ballsy if he didnt have a mob with him.
that kinda shit is sure to keep me home.
i could care less.

I still go out to a lot of shows.. it's partly cuz I love it but it's also partly a business thing.. between doing business for two bands plus working
for a CD duplication place I've gotta stay on top of bands and shows and shit like that.
I definitely don't go out like I did before I had three kids, and I don't jump in the van with my friends when they play out of state anymore. I miss
it, but then again, I kinda like sitting at home with the PS2 once in a while instead of being wasted in another state hauling someone else's gear
around.
As for new bands I just can't keep up unless we play a show with them or something.
