I kind of feel bad for Imus.

I don't feel bad for him. He's got millions. I can appreciate sarcasm and all types of humor, but in today's political climate, his words were not chosen wisely.

I mean, it was all in fun, but if you have millions of listeners, you need to think about what you present to them.

Plus, he's a crackhead!

But I do agree that Al Sharpton pushes things too far.
Jesse Jackson chimes in for face time......

They are ignorant themselves.....

Yeah, that Jason fellow was on ESPN radio today. I agree with him 100%. What's the difference with Dave Chapelle making a whitey joke? I know it's a joke and it doesn't bother me. It depends on the context.

There's far too many black comedians basing their acts on making fun of white people. The content doesn't bother me so much as the unoriginality of it all.

Making fun of black people is funny.

Making fun of white people is more funny.

When you're a comedian doing comedy.

When you're an sour barely significant radio show host who makes an ill thought out comment trying to use "lingo" you heard in a Spike Lee movie you caught 30 seconds of while flipping channels between Hannity and Combes commercials its not funny. It's tragic. I really don't believe Imus, regardless of his beliefs or what he has said in the past made those comments with any degree of maliciousness. Listening to the bit repeatedly (I listen to sports/talk radio 8 hrs a day at work) its painfully obvious they were trying to top each other with the comments, it was clear he was aping somthing he heard on somewhere and had no idea what it meant, let alone how it would impact him over the next two weeks.

Imus is 100% at fault. He's guilty for being a national radio talk show host so completely clueless of the racial climate in America he would say somthing rediculously thoughtless enough to give Jackson and Sharpton yet another chance for potlitical grandstanding and furthering their agendas.

is it just me or does Al sharptons hair just get crazier and crazier? I'll never forget one night he was on Glenn Becks show talking about the plight of the black man in this country when Glenn says "whats that on your wrist?" Ally boy looks down not realizing what he's talking about, then Glenn says,"it's a Rolex, right?" "A 50,000 dollar watch." then glenn gets into him about his plight and how it can't be that bad considering he wears a 50,000 dollar watch and Ally boy comes back with, "Well, I am one of the lucky few." That shit made me absolutely sick! Who the fuck payed for that watch, all those helpless and hopeless assholes he preaches to all the time and who's "backs he's got" Fuck both of these jokers right in their self righteous assholes.

Howard Stern used to work with Imus at WNBC back in the early 80's and Howard says it's a really well known fact among people who were in the business at the time that Imus is racist. Stern said Imus used say nigger all the time, and in particular referrerd to one secretary at NBC a nigger all the time. I mean that's off-the-air-not-even-trying-to-be-funny racism there. So even though I don't think what Imus said in this instance is a big deal, maybe this shit is just karma catching up.

I totally agree. Sharpton and Jackson don't really have a leg to stand on because let's face it... don't throw stones when you live in a glass house. Still, Imus is an ass and his show sucks. There's a reason that almost no one listens to it.

Why don't white people take offense to black people making jokes about them? Number one reason is that we were never enslaved and kept out of mainstream society and socialized with slurs like "cracker" and "honkey", shit white people made up both those so-called "slurs." Rich white people used to call poor whites "crackers" way back in the day and honkey comes from honkey tonk. Entirely different when you flip the script though. What do "we" go to fear from a little ribbing by the people "our" culture has kept out for the most part? Wasn't long ago people were being strung up just for being black... we really can't say the same in the opposite direction.

Racism is racism, but there's a much more insidious element to white racism vs that of black people or anyone else. The simple fact that there's still elements of systemic white racism is testimony to that.

That too. I heard this else where... from the guy who Imus made a pledge not to speak disparagingly of black people to a couple years ago... don't remember his name, but he's been on NPR all week.

Speak for yourself, friend, I'm Irish. My great-grandfather used to deliver milk in Africville, because he was Irish and considered no better.

(Africville was a black "community" on the outskirts of the then city and was eventually demolished to make way for a container pier)

Well, its this place where nobody works, and the pigs don\'t give you any shit. Everyone smokes weed and gets drunk all day. Its a place where cunts like me and you can truly take it easy and relax. Know what I mean?

Most people don't appreciate the bullshit and hostility and bigotry many Europeans faced when they came here, particularly the Irish (my background as well) and the Italians.

Hey, I got Irish background as well... but it wasn't nearly as bad as what black people got. Cracker, after all, was a term the English used to use in reference to the Scots-Irish immigrants.

HELP WANTED

NO IRISH NEED APPLY

I dunno man, the conditions in the slums back then are damn near on par with how bad living on a plantation was. Alot of former slaves did live to quite an old age, while the life expectancy of an factory working immigrant was almost non existant. The pyschological effect of literlly being someones property is pretty bad, but the Irish were not really granted into american society until JFKS election. Not to say that slavery was not a terrible injustice, but those peoples suffering being exploited how it has definetly makes me a little numb to it. And while almost everyone knows the history and consequences of slavery it seems like few have a clue about how truely bad it was for immigrants coming to the big cities.

No doubt it was bad... actually is STILL bad today... but its of a different thing. I mean, at least in theory a factory working Irishman's kid could come up in the world... a slave couldn't expect anything better for his children.

Just goes to show how little we really should be all that patriotic and think of the US as some great bastion of liberty, justice and equality given that all this wealth was built on the backs of exploited workers, slave and wage slave alike... and that it's still maintained on such a principle... only now the wage slavery is being moved overseas and the immigrants getting exploited in factories and meat packing plants are Mexican for the most part.
