A question for those with labels or bands
When a label puts out a release, do they own the rights to that recording forever? Is it for a certain number of years, a certain number of units,
etc?
Just curious.

it depends on the contract but typically the label owns the recording

In most cases, the label owns the recording if the songs were recorded during the contract timeframe. However the songs are still the bands. So they
can re-record the songs under another label if need be.
