SCENE '07

http://www.scenemusicfestival.com/

The 12th annual SCENE music festival is taking place in St. Catharines, Ontario once again on Sunday July 22. This takes place at venues all across the downtown district.

With 147 bands playing at over a dozen venues, this all day event has music for everyone, from rap and acoustic sets to hardcore & metal acts.

Its been getting bigger every year, last year mobile provider Solo was primary sponsor, previous years have seen many beer companies sponsor, this year its MTV :o

This years big names include Madball, Fucked Up, Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music), Attack In Black, Senate, Rad Affair & many others. Tickets are on sale at Ticketmaster.ca and outlets across Southern Ontario.

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

I love that someone named their band after the blood code for Mortal Kombat on the Sega Genesis...

I think they're called ABACABB or something of that nature. A friend of mine is all about them. I think they're playing somewhere in central PA this weekend.

Yes... that is indeed great!

That is all.

Have you ever noticed how crayons are a lot like M&M's? All the colors tend to taste the same.

It always seems like too many bands, but its like 15 venues from noon to 1am or something and the bands you want to see are usually spread out pretty good. Last time I went back in 2003 I had a fair bit of idle time and didn't show up until 3pm or so.

Cursed played and was the highlight of that one, Alexisonfire was getting bigger & bigger by then too so it was a big crowd but not as big as the last few have been since then.

This is definately a fucking monster line up. Madball is playing! A few years ago they never really had any bands outside the region playing, even Toronto bands had a hard time playing. Now its your local punk bands playing the same gig as bands like Madball & Chuck Ragan.

Great vibe, I recommend it to anyone who digs all sorts of music, its worth the trip from the Northeast for sure.
