I'll throw in the opposite voice: I think it's pretty bad.

i listened to the stream of the record on myspace.
i'm a little on the fence about it.
some of it just don't sit right with me.
i think it is because i hold their early early stuff in such high regard and compare everything to that...i dunno.
on a funny side note, my girlfriends dad, who was a reggae musician, got her and her brother into the bad brains. my parents never had any taste.

My download must have been a unfinished product becasue the CD sounds so much better.

the first listen, i wasn't feelin' it.

my WMP is on repeat mode.

when the CD started over, i was hearing it a different way and liked it.

many listens later and i'd give it the ol' thumbs up.

It finally came in the mail today and I've played it three times. It's MUCH better than their late period stuff, but in NO WAY does it compare to old school Brains. It makes for good background music and there's some cool music in there, but HR is definitely waaaaaay off his nut. There's some absolutely nutty shit comin' outta his mouth on this album. I wish it came with a lyric sheet so I could easily pin down exactly what he's sayin' in some places, but I KNOW he said some weird ass nonsense in a few spots.

On a related note, anybody notice how often people with mental problems seem to gravitate more and more towards religion as they spiral further into insanity?

Yeah, definitely NOT what it was hyped up to be, I didn't think it could be a real return to their early sound, but it easily could have been a LOT worse.

I got to admit it hasn't seen much play with me since I got it. I jam the SOIA tribute cd way more.
