are you referring to the gradient tool i nthe tool palette, or the gradient blending option in the layers palette?

I hate the gradient tool myself
I usually end up jsut fucking with it until I get it right
and then forgrt how I do it
...
I'll mess with it tonight and get you an aswer asap

if i understand correctly, you're lookign to create a gradient with any two colors of your choosing. if that's correct...

you can also create multi-color gradients. in the layers palette, select a layer to work in, select 'layer style' (by either right clicking, or using
the drop down menu in the pallette), then select gradient overlay style. in that window, click on the gradient that is displayed to launch the
gradient editor window.
the gradient editor window allows you to add opacity stops (by double clicking above the gradient) or color stops (by double clicking below the
gradient).
