Rubin also suggested (strongly) that Columbia become the first major record company to go green and abolish plastic jewel boxes for all its CDs.
...I'm interested in that. What would they be using instead of plastic for cases?

This "word of mouth" department sounds like the ole street team mainstay of hardcore labels.

Later on in that article Rubin and others talked about a "subscription" based medium to acquire music rather than through the brick and mortar means
of the past. I hate that idea, I would much rather have something tangible in my hands than a download.

The article gives me a sense of hope in Rubin. I thought it was very well written. The bottom line though is how to make money off the backs of the
artists. They even mention asking for 50% of the concert and t-shirt revenues. Ugh, this is for sure the ugly side of music but is it a necessary
evil? I don't know.

I could care less about tangible product. I honestly don't care about that at all anymore. I bought the new Municipal Waste from iTunes and it came
with a PDF file of all the album art so I didn't need the actual CD. But the subscription thing is the stupidest fucking thing ever to me. They have
these services now and basically once you stop paying the fee every month you no longer have access to your music. Maybe mainstream retards who
listen to the first 35 seconds of the same 25 songs all the time will be into that but not me.

This will never effect underground music. Ever. Unless you're worried about Nelly or Dixie Chicks I wouldn't be concerned in the slightest.
The downside is that maybe if it did it would kill off all the HC labels, the scene would implode, start anew and we would only get to hear good bands
instead of everyones friends bands who are "really good dudes".
