a much needed change
I've been working shitty jobs my entire life. Im 25 now and am currently a dishwasher at my old highschool. I get paid all of $7.85 an hour. It sucks.
Before that I did maintanance at JC Penneys where after 3 years my pay was a whopping $8.00. The list of shitty jobs goes on and on.
A little over a month ago I found an add in the newspaper for an "awake overnight person" to work with Northeast Kingdom Youth Services. I've been
around human services for about 6 years. I've met alot of great people while going through therapy and counceling and such. I have a fairly good grasp
on the ethical boundries and confidentiality as well as overcoming my own depression and anxiety so I figured I should apply for this job.
The basis of the job would be working a 12 hour shift (8pm-8am) in a "transitional home" where young adults (ages 16-21) who are homeless or having
family issues or even victims of abuse would come to stay and we (myself and the rest of the Youth Services staff) would be there to help them with
their problems and offer a supportive atmosphere to them. We'd work with them in finding jobs and overcoming the problems young adults face.
My first interview went pretty well and I was called back for a second interview which went good also ( I felt the first interview was better though).
Yesterday I called them to see if they had made a decission on who would be filling the 3 positions and was told I would find out Monday or Tuesday
of next week. Today when I got home from work I checked my voice mail and had a message from one of the board of directors of Youth Services to call
her back. She even gave me her home phone number and wanted me to get in contact with her as soon as possible. I called her home number but was only
greeted by an answering machine. I think though Im going to get offered the job. Infact I have a very good feeling I will. I would be so excited to
get it. To actually have a job with some meaning (and of course much better pay, health insurance and 4 weeks vacation a year). Tomorrow while at work
in going to call her house again in hopes of getting the good news. I would love to give my two weeks notice to my shitty dead end job. It would bring
such a smile to my face. So wish me luck, I hope this works out in my favor

Good for you man. I've been at the same dead end job for 7 years now which pays me well but sucks the life out of me.
I had a job interview a week ago. They said they would contact me either way to let me know so everytime my phone rings I get excited. I had hoped
to hear from them yesterday but no dice. It would be a pay decrease but the hours would be more normal and it would be a music industry job.
Fingers crossed for you man.

Good luck man. Sometimes the best way to help yourself is to help others.
Make sure you do the "I quit" dance if you score the job.

cunts like me and you can truly take it easy and relax. Know what I mean?

I know this feeling all too well. Best of luck with everything.

I called the call to the Youth Services director today around 10 when I was at work. I was offered one of the 3 positions at the job. It is 20 hours a
week (which is fine because I have my business for the extra income) It also pays $12, gives me paid vacation and life insurance (health insurance was
only offered to the people with the 36 hour position.) Its also a great job for someone like me who is highly considering a degree in Human Services
and gets my foot in the door.
All thats left is to check one more of my references and do a background check (which will come up clean) and I should hear back by the 14th. Then I
can do my "I quit" dance.

Great news. By the way, the "I Quit" dance is a jig, done while singing "I quit, I quit, I quit, quit, quit, quit." to the tune of "Itchy & Scratchy".
And Joe's right, you'll probably be looking at more hours down the road, but 20 hours a week might be what you want if you're going back to school.
