the big guy's review of last night's Sinead O'Connor concert in Philly

Got lost on the way thanks to all the construction on 309.
The venue was maybe 75% full, but sounded decent.
The crowd was comprised largely of love-scorned, petroulli-soaked freaks.
The new songs are not my thing.
And I'm sorry to say, she didn't look so good in the frumpy suit she was wearing.

However...her voice remains ABSOLUTELY amazing.

She played an even mix of old and new songs, and even though I didn't care for the new tracks, most of them were acoustic, so it was easy to ignore the lyrics and focus on the quality of her voice. She sang at least half of her second album, which I was stoked on, including: The Emperor's New Clothes, I Am Stretched On Your Grave, Three Babies, Nothing Compares 2 U and Black Boys On Mopeds.

Just to hear that voice live once was worth it and that she sang so many of her classic songs so perfectly made it worth all the other BS.

NO Clevo. Not much of a US tour, but I would have like to go none the less.

I'd love to see her in concert. Such an incredible voice.

haha yeah, I had no idea she was still around. Touring Australia shortly.

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.
