“The record is just so solid it’s incredible. Its 42 minutes and 31 seconds of honest, heartfelt lyrics, a solid rhythm section and my favorite guitar player playing some of the best simple catchy riffs that I've ever heard. Before I had the record I thought quite a bit about how catchy some of the riffs are on the record, the guitar line from Tattooed Hearts for example, is something that I feel like I can't even pick up a guitar without playing cause its usually stuck in my head. Even the solos are great and capture the feeling of the song without being boring or noodley. I think its a really rare talent to be able to play the shit out of a guitar but to also have the sense and taste to know what fits the part and not overplay it. Mike and Steve are an incredibly good rhythm section and the drums and bass are perfect on every song, again tasteful bass lines and fills that fit the song perfectly. Jeff's ability to tell a story through a song is incredible. I really feel like this record raises the bar on what bands around hear can and should be doing. There's a level of sincerity to these songs that the Boston punk scene is sorely lacking, there's no going through the motions or posturing, just raw barebones rock and roll the way it should be.”

“Over the weekend I saw Bright Eyes and Springsteen play. And it got me thinking that not only are those bands great but they offer a certain quality that is completely void in local music. I think it really comes down to a combo of honesty and quality. And the only band I could come up with that rivals these two bands is Death & Taxes (and Elliott Smith but he's dead). That probably sounds way over stated but I really don't think it is. There is no pretense with D&T. They're just a great band that isn't fooling themselves or anyone else like so many other bands in town are.”

"Death & Taxes was formed in 2005 in the wake of the highly successful reunion show of Boston street rock band The Bruisers by original Bruisers songwriter/guitarist Jeff Morris and new bassist Mike Savitkas along with Steve Toland on drums. Morris spent nine years in the Bruisers alongside current Dropkick Murphys singer Al Barr honing his street rock songwriting skills and the Death & Taxes debut CD Tattooed Hearts & Broken Promises is the result of all those years spent on the road, in the studio and onstage. The sound and production value of the recording are world class thanks to the work of engineer Jim Siegel who has worked with the Dropkick Murphys, The Unseen, Blood for Blood and many more successful bands.

With the musical impact of Social Distortion and the lyrical impact of Westerberg-meets-Springsteen, this recording crosses over in appeal to fans of punk, roots rock and insurgent country such as Lucero, Bright Eyes and Steve Earle. Post-punk audiences gravitate to the stories told in Morris’s songs, from friends lost to drug overdose to teenage suicide and even the murder of a close friend. The truth and honesty in the lyrics shine through on every track and is propelled by the high level of musicianship throughout.
