Info on the band:
Smoke & Mirrors features; Dave Vogt on vocals, Jack Molnar & Joe Nolan on guitar, EMS on the bass/vocals, & Pat bolla on the drums. All of our past
bands and history is a twisted mess. Jon & Pat first started out together around Y2K in a young band called Years From Now. A few years later Dave &
Pat had shared time together in Seven Stitches in 2002 (Seventh Dagger Records) followed by New Noise in 2003. After the demise of both bands they
later joined up with Jack for the revamped 2004 version of Problem Solver Revolver (Surprise Attack Rec.). Long time friend Eric M. Schauffele (a.k.a.
EMS) owner and operator of Surprise Attack Records as well as former bassist from Brother’s Keeper 1995-2003 (and fill in for Stretch Arm Strong in
'04) recently moved back to Erie, PA in the winter of 2007. After a long day of unloading EMS's moving truck in the dead center of an Erie Winter,
Dave went to a local watering hole to meet up with Jon & Pat. The idea for the 4 of us to get something going immediately fell into place that night.
All 4 members were hungry for a new & productive project.
After several months of practicing and a few of us either in weddings or actually getting married, progression is finally upon us. In late November of
2007 our friend Joe Nolan came to a practice to check out what we were up to. Having liked the direction of the project and the need for a 2nd
guitarist, the fit seemed just right. Joe is currently in another band called Who Bleeds First and his past resume is nothing short of impressive. He
was in the legendary Shockwave, Digression, The Good Guys & Thick As Thieves. All were well known throughout the Erie hardcore scene.
Mid February 2008 the group finished recording their 6 song EP titled "Fire Ashes Phoenix Rising" in Syracuse, NY @ More Sound Studios. It’s a nice
mix of raw and heavy hardcore leaning on the mid tempo side, with a nod to the old as well as the new. There are some metal influences here and there
as well as a strong sense of punk urgency. The D.I.Y. ethic is strong within the band and will unleash numerous EPs on several different labels for
the next year in and outside of the US. Stay connected for more info to come.
Lake effect... in effect. 2008

Each aspect of the soul has it's own part to play, but the ideal is harmonious agreement with reason and control.
