nerds, ya know what's wild?

runnin windows on a mac.
man this is messin me up.

a client of mine runs this web app (IE only) that i needed access to, so the purchase was in order. i considered buying a pc, but why bother? i picked up vmware fusion and vista last week and just installed them on my new macbookpro this morning.

you can run windows full screen, as a resized screen that visually sits on top of OSX, or you can integrate the windows programs right into OSX, even loading them in the dock.

safari is installed on pc now and I didn't ask for it. Since I have itnues they requested to "update" itunes folder so I did. Then it said "SAFARI successfully installed". I got jacked by apple. I haven't used it as my browser yet. Do you like it? I was thinking of changing it from GOOGLE.

I'd be interested in hearing people's reviews of Safari. I too get that message.

the 'safari on a pc' questions is a tricky one.
technically, safari is one of the fastest and most accurate browsers available.
it is my primary browser on the mac, followed by firefox.
but that statement assumes that the website you're visiting has been coded correctly.

it goes a little something like this...

- there is an international body of nerds that sets the standard for how code is supposed to be rendered by a browser.

- a company creating browser software can choose to follow those standards or not. firefox and safari follow them very closely while Microsoft is notorious for shipping browsers that render code uniquely.

- this creates problems for developers and endusers. coders either have to create workarounds (different versions of code) for different versions of different browsers, OR they can just code for the most popular (which is IE). the increased popularity of FF has pushed the issue of 'standards compliant' code, and as such, consistency has improved in recent years. however, microsoft makes no bones about the fact that it employs proprietary code in its websites which, in many cases, leave them unviewable in FF, Safari, Opera, etc.

ultimately, i'd say, try it and see if ya like it. it's definitely got some good features and it runs really well (on the mac, at least). but it's not like some other apple products that i would swear by it.

I just got a Macbook Pro as well...I like Safari a lot. If you use Firefox then you won't have a problem using Safari.

BD...the 4gb ram upgrade from that website was definitely worth it.

absolutely amazing price. i'm going with the same as soon as i pay off the actual machine later this month.

OWC is great. i bought their replacement battery for my 4yo PowerBook there - it cost $30 less than apple's and had an extra 20% capacity.

Windows and Apple don't mix, I wouldn't crossbreed lol. If I wanna run Windows I'm gonna do it on a PC, same with OS X on a Mac.

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

generally, i feel the same way. but personally, i needed access to IE and I wasn't buying a completely separate machine. plus, i've used vmware's other products with great success on servers for some time, so i have a fair amount of confidence in their product.

Hey BD I have a question for ya if you don't mind.
My Fiance and I play a lot of nerdy RPG/Strategy type games that we have always wanted to LAN.
My question is if I install the VMWare application on a newer Mac will I be able to run PC games on the Mac or will I run into gfx card/driver issues? I'm a real PC nerd so I will stick with that but we both do design and have a Mac as a second computer in the house. We're hoping to buy a new Mac in the next 6 months and are were hoping we could LAN them for games. We already do this for Diablo II between the PC and Mac version of the game but in would be nice to play some of the newer PC games.
Any info/links would be greatly appreciated.

I love you nerds. My wife does nothing but make fun of me for getting excited about the fact that I just upgraded the ram in my G5. I am now running 4 gigs which makes porn run really well.

I can't see why one would want to run windows on a Mac. I use a windows PC at work all day now that I have a real job and breath a sigh of relief when I get home to my little studio and start working on my Mac again.

Whats worse is my boss is considering buying a new macbook for himself because i've been going on about how great they are in the hopes that he would buy one for me. Ain't that a bitch.

Anyhow, fellow nerds, I'm off to survey some music venues in another town. Boss man called me up yesterday and said we were taking a road trip to survey the venues for our next big festival, which means I get to get loaded on the old mans tab tonight while we "survey".

Fuck I love my job.

So that me and the wife don't have to buy a second PC just to get our nerd and play games via LAN. Our tiny apartment won't fit 3 computers. I don't think I could live without a Mac AND a PC anymore.

What is Safari? I got a windows update this morning saying that Microsoft wanted to upgrade my shit and install Safari. I said no because I have no idea what it is or what it's for. PC not Mac.

Safari is a browser just like Internet explorer, Firefox, Opera, Netscape and Flock. You probably have Internet explorer and if you don't have problems with it you don't necessarily need another one. On the other hand, it can't hurt to try. You might find some functions that make browsing the internet more convenient. I use Firefox myself and wouldn't do without all the extra functions you can add to it.
