Pope in grave condition?

Does anyone care about this? Is the catholic church out of touch with our society? Does this posting get me free stuff? I wish I had friends.

One thing that is always good to yell in a crowd "Make way, get out of the way. Here comes the Pope and his pregnant girlfriend". Usually gets some smiles.

On the ride up to CT last weekend, Mrs. Moron and I had a discussion about the history of religions. We eventually got up to Catholicism and we couldn't figure out for the life of us how the first pope convinced everyone that only he and the clergy in the church could speak to God. We googled it, and I still dont really know the answer.

Of course... we found that Jesus was opposed to any sort of religious leaders, but he wasnt necessarily against churches. How do things get so twisted from their original intent?

I care about the pope... much respect to him. I mean,...the man helped to defeat communism in Eastern Europe! ...and I have a soft spot in my heart for Eastern Europe. I'm down with JPII.

I don't really have an answer for you... but i can tell you in the early church, still Roman times... there were 4 or 5 major centers of Christianity, and Rome was but one of them... and the Pope was most important in that area... but not so much in others... it's a good historical question how the pope of Rome came to power.

Things get all turned around due to the fact it was all spread by word of mouth. It is human nature to exagerate and this is all prior to moveable type. This is where "faith" comes in to play. The subject of "faith" is a whole other thread probably.

from what I've read the Pope had something to do with selling chemicals to the Nazi's during the 30's. I don't know. Fuck church. I grew up Catholic. That upbringing and Slayer were 2 major factors that helped me wake up from being a religious robot. Both scared me enough to question it all.

Actually, the pope ran an underground organization to hide Polish Jews and Christians. He also made a public apology, literaly in front of God and everyone, on behave of the Catholic Church for not making an effort to stop the Germans during WWII. He spoke 23 languidges fluently, and was the leader of the most charitable (dollar and labor wise) institution EVER. What the fuck have you kids done? The history of Papal authority and Catholic/Christian church origin is very complex; there are many disagreements on authenticity of documents, who said what, when they said it, etc. I'm afraid that a google search and a conversation with someone not versed in Church history aren't going to paint a very clear picture of the subject. Neither are the opinions of hardcore kids on messageboards. And, for God's sake, just because Juice got molested by a priest and Tommy Araya does not mean that the Pope and down for the core. BUST!

while i'm not a fan of the pope, or catholocism, or organized religion, or unorganized reiligion for the matter... the pope did make a pretty strong stance against w's illegal war in Iraq, which was a pretty significant statement for someone in his position.
At least they're letting him die with a tad more dignity that Schiavo (not having entertainment tonight cameras documenting his last breath). But I suppose that's another topic.

I actually won 20$ on this. It was between the poper goin and some old guy Rudy from the bar who won't die but keeps drinking and had pnemoniua(sic) and shit. I took the 20 and bought perks, reason #1038 I've sealed my spot in hell.
