"Public Image" was one of the first songs I learned to play on bass (its pretty damn simple)

I saw them around 1990-91 in Providence with School of Fish. I think it was on the "9" tour, but I'm not positive.

I've only heard 2-3 songs by them over the years but I liked what I heard.

I got FLOWERS OF ROMANCE as well. some of the most creepy music put on tape. I mean that. Martin Atkins is a legend. THey were even great after he left but they did get more pop structure with the same abrasive edge. Many many great tunes. Lydon has a way with words.

RELIGION

Stained glass windows keep the cold outside
While the hypocrites hide inside
With the lies of statues in their minds
Where the Christian religion made them blind
Where they hide
And prey to the God of a bitch spelled backwards is dog
Not for one race, one creed, one world
But for money
Effective
Absurd

Do you pray to the Holy Ghost when you suck your host
Do you read who’s dead in the Irish Post
Do you give away the cash you can’t afford
On bended knees and pray to lord

Fat pig priest
Sanctimonious smiles
He takes the money
You take the lies
This is religion and Jesus Christ
This is religion cheaply priced
This is bibles full of libel
This is sin in eternal hymn
This is what they’ve done
This is your religion
The apostles were eleven
Now there’s a sod in Heaven

This is religion
There’s a liar on the altar
The sermon never falter
This is religion
Your religion

PIL are an awesome band.

Although hardly anything touches the Sex Pistols.

I love "Never Mind..." and all, but my favorite "official" Pistols release is the "Mini Album" EP Restless Records released in the late 80's. 6 tracks culled from the "Spunk" bootleg (which is great, great, great). I just prefer those versions over the "Never Mind..." versions personally.

As for PiL.......hate to admit it, but I never checked them out. Always have heard that the first album is flawless, etc. and I def. should give at least that one a try.

Now that I think of it, another band I have also not been kind to are Lords of the New Church. Love that first Dead Boys album and have heard that the debut LotNC album is flawless as well, but for some reason, I still have not checked it out.

Pil rule. Lords of the New Church rule. Pistols and The Dead Boys rule.
If you get a chance check out Stiv's solo album, I think it was called Disconnected, good stuff.

I have the Wanderer's "Only Lover's Left Alive" album (from the GODLY Captain Oi label), great stuff, I really do need to check out that 1st LotNC album.

As for Pil, I think I'm going to dload their first album; if I like it, I'll prob. just go ahead and get that box-set thing.......

PIL have a very different sound as they went on. Not bad at all just very different so if you check out the very early stuff absolutely check the more recent stuff as well. I like it all, but "Flowers of Romance" "Album" and "9" are in my opinion really good.
