Making chili this weekend
Anyone have any ideas on what to put in it? I want to make it hot, but still be edible.
I am using beef, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, pinto beans, black beans, hot chili seasoning, garlic, onion. Thats what I got so far.

hot.

pickled? that might have something to do with it. go with fresh jalapenos. you can usually buy them individually at a good supermarket or farm
market.
guess it also depends what kid of 'hot' you like, ya know? too me, hot sauces are try too hard and are often identifiable as just being on top of
whatever food. it doesn't permeate as much.

Ive made two batches of chili this fall. Never made chili before, so the first one was just a tester to see if I have the ability to fuck up an easy
recipe. It came out great so I made a few tweaks with the second batch and it's even better. I used pretty much the same ingredients as you, clevo.
I'll try to find the recipe. To add spice and flavor I threw in a good amount of this hot sauce I found. Here's the website.
http://www.cajohns.com/Hot-Sauces/CaBoom-Gourmet-Hot-Sauce.html
I used the Caboom habanero hot sauce. It's got really good flavor and has some good heat. I've really been getting into hot sauces lately, and this
is one of my favorites. Caboom is hot, but if you put it in the chili it'll make it taste so damn good.

can't seem to find the exact recipe, but it's something like this:
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1/2 onion chopped
2 cans kidney beans
2 cans dices tomatoes (I had ones with chilis in them, but I guess it doesnt matter)
Chili powder (if you want...)
Hot sauce
chop onions and throw them in with the ground beef into a skillet with some oil. brown the beef. add beans and tomatoes, hot sauce and whatever
other spices you want. Bring to a boil. simmer for 30 minutes or so. Done. I tell you, the key was the Caboom hot sauce. Even my wife liked it,
and she doesnt like hot stuff. The second batch was a bit hotter than the first though. She didn't eat much though she said she liked the flavor.

another hot sauce I love is Blair's Original Death Sauce. It's a habanero sauce, but it's not as hot at Caboom. It's so tasty I can put it on
anything. I'll probably make some chili with it at some point.

Depending on the size of the pot... toss in either a bottle of barbecue sauce (take your pic) or spicy baked beans... or both. Each will add a nice
kick without going overboard. If you feel like you overdo it, I always find that adding more chili powder will dull the taste and make it more
manageable.

Dude. Tabasco is nothing. You need to try this shit. It's supposedly available in Central America. So much better than Tabasco.

if you like mexican, use salsa, picante, and/or taco sauces-enchilada sauces with, or in lieu of tomato sauce...
I really dig mushrooms in chili too...no, the kind from the grocery store...
HOT...yeah I mean you can use habaneros and jalapenos or sauces...it just depends how hot, like all have said, and your taste...
that's actually a good idea...
it has gotten colder...
I'm making chili too this weekend...

I am going on three straight days of ingesting my wifes chili and last night I gave her a particularly nasty dutch oven to show her what it does to my
body when we live off her chili for too long. It's funny how things change when you are with someone long enough, I would have rather died than even
think about doing something like that to her when we were dating. Now, shit, now it's fun.

So thi sis what I did.
All Beef 2 1/2. I wanted spicy sausage but I didn't buy any while at the store.
added worstiser(spelling) sauce to meat after it cooked
White onion- the kind that burns the tears out of ya.
added the onion the same time as worstesire.
3- 14.5 ounce cans of tomato sauce
1- can of tomato dice with liquid
Fresh minced garlic- 2 tablespoons
1- cans black bean
1-can pinto bean
1-can butter bean
I lost count on the hot chili spices. I started the measurements but kept adding.
I jalapeno pepper cleaned it/seeded it then minced it up.
1/2 habenero pepper cleaned.
Then added Trappies cayan pepper sauce. About 2 ounces maybe.
Let simmer for about an hour and a half. Really fucking good. Hope to be shitting a brick in about 1 hour EST.
Things I almost added............
CORN
kidney beans- course
sour cream
potato
I am making some for a contest for UNITED WAY on Thursday night. May get a little crazy and add some of the above.
The ones that usually win are the really hot ones. Or the ones made from rain deer and shit. Apparently chili is good with rain deer. Never had that.
One thing is certain I will add more jalapeno or habenero. I tasted it but it could be a little hotter.
