I'll never understand the appeal of black metal, unless it's Venom.

Some good shit there, Carpathian Forest, Gorgoroth & Immortal. Been on a metal kick lately too but not black, just metal.

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

I actually hear what you are saying. It took me a long time to really get into Black Metal, but I was so attracted to the imagery and craziness of it that I kept giving it a shot. That being said I am very picky as to what I listen to and most bands I really only like certain albums. However, when I do find a band or album I like it stays with me for a long time.

I was however rockin some Entombed discs and the Carcass Peel Sesions earlier.
Not black, but very metal.

I usually find it more interesting to read about the bands than listen to them. The book Lords of Chaos was amazing. Somewhat biased, but still amazing.

Ya that was my deal as well and then it just made me want to get into the music that much more. Lords of Chaos was a good read. Its funny how hip hop and what not goes on and on about how hard they are and hardcore as well to a certain extent, but those crazy Black Metal mother fuckers were the only ones killing each other and putting their money where their mouth is. Not that someone is to be admired for that kind of crap, just making a point.

Lords of Chaos was awesome haha. I got a documentary on Norweigan Black Metal and some other vids about the BM scene there, awesome stuff.

Dawn of the Black Hearts album cover by Mayhem is one of my avatars somewhere :)

Absu is good considering its Texan black metal :)

Never was able to get into ABSU. Those other two bands are really good though. Thanks for the heads up Mike.

I would put Behemoth in this category. I really dig the album Demigod.

I fucking love Behemoth. Their new album is killer as well and they just put out a brand new ep which is pure fucking murder.

Good choice and probably one of my favorite all time Black/Death metal bands.
