Cat burning

Thought I would watch something educational instead of another episode of The Simpsons, so I put on this: http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/steven_pinker_on_the_myth...

He talks about how cat burning used to be this big source of crowd entertainment, which I had never heard of. Sure enough, Wikipedia has an entry with the details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat-burning

Part of me thinks we've made some progress over the last few hundred years... then I remember several recent stories about dog-fighting rings (Michael Vick, a big ring in the south, rise in popularity in Afghanistan).

I hate finding out about this stuff. Makes me angry.

Each aspect of the soul has it's own part to play, but the ideal is harmonious agreement with reason and control.

The very existence of flamethrowers proves that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves, ?You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I?m just not close enough to get the job done.? George Carlin

You did all catch the part about cat burning being popular in 16th century Paris, right? I mean, it's still fucked up, but it was 500 years ago. Now the dog-fighting part, that shit is way too popular currently.

Yeah.

I condemn both acts, but I have to say that burning a group of cats or any animal for that matter, together for little kids and their parents to watch is more fucked up than a group of scumbags trying to make $ off of some poor dogs.
