I like Pantera a lot... I think most of the records are good, but I had to go with Kiss.

KISS = Four guys who put out an immense body of quality work highly influential to millions of musicians of all genres all over the world. Changed the
face of rock music and what lives shows could be. 8 rock solid albums before they started doing solo albums and experimenting.
Pantera = Four guys who tanked in their effort at glam rocking and latched onto thrash due to a brilliant guitar players ability to write genre
changing riffs. 2 rock solid albums and forgettable efforts afterwards.
Don't get me wrong...I do like CFH and VDOP, theyre two perfect albums...thats rare in any genre, but from a legacy standpoint Pantera doesn't even
come close to the almighty KISS.
...and breaking it down to just a party standpoint...house full of people getting hammered with any of the 1st four KISS albums cranked having a good
time sounds like a much more satisfying time then hanging out with a room of dudes and a bottle of Jagermeister hating the world along with Pantera.
I've been to both.

I've never even listened to a kiss album.Their "popular" radio songs were more than enough for me. Advise me of something that'll change my mind and
I'll check it out. My interest level in kiss has always been about equal with Poison. Dudes in makeup.

Pantera...
Poison...
....hmmm
KISS absolutely gets a bad rap over the makeup...but the first 6 studio albums are essential. Check out s/t, hotter than hell, dressed to kill,
destroyer, love gun, rock n roll over and alive I and II.

ouch.point taken....Pantera just lost a few cool points. Guess I never wanted to acknowledge that part of their past. I'll check out some kiss this
week. Regardless if the music's good, Gene Simmons is a fucking asshole.

the one thing to take into consideration with Pantera is that the Glam Rock records had a different singer. After they got Phil they put out the
'Power Metal' LP. They still look glammy on it, but its more of a Judas Priest style metal record. Then they became the thrash band that everyone
knows them as. I always hated the whole "Dimebag" thing. Even on Cowboys from Hell he was "Diamond Darrel".
I'm not sure what happened to Phil after Pantera... hes in like 37 different underground black metal bands and then Superjoint Ritual which put out 1
great record and 1 okay record.

I'd recommend Double Platinum (I have the 8 track actually), Dynasty and the essential is Alive 1 and 2.

Vulgar and Far Beyond are good. Never liked KISS but I did have CRAZY NIGHTS on cassette as a youngster. Probably their worst record from what people
tell me, but I like it. "THESE ARE CRAZY,CRAZY,CRAZY NIIIIGGGHHHHTTTTTS!"

Doh, yeah, that was actually the first one I was going to put down, but then went to see if Viking Crown was correct and forgot to add it.

I grew up on Kiss and still think the early stuff is some brilliant Rock 'N Roll, when the make up came off they got gay, but were very solid before
that. Pantera I never could stand in any of their phases.

I believe that would qualify as a paradoxical statement.

Gene Simmons and the endless array of pathetic KISS merch have ruined the band for me. They still got some cool tunes but Pantera fucking blows them
away.
A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s
a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal
favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.
