I saw this also, when it happened. How did he "school" him. Two things happened...
1. Phoenix came on being a wierdo. Wether he's crazy or just acting like it because he's a douche is another issue.
2. Letterman saw this opening and did what he should have done, clown Phoenix for being a wierdo.
The results...Letterman is not now known for anything different than he was before, a funny ass dude masterful at exploiting the right opening.
However, Phoenix got TONS of press and discussion of why he's a wierdo. He's everywhere now.
Seems like Phoenix is the one that comes out ahead. How much extra press did Brad Pitt or any other Joe Hollywood get from their last Letterman
appearance?

I'd agree he comes off like an asshole....but if I boycotted every movie that had someone I thought was a real life asshole in it I'd never see
another movie again.
I guess he just didn't offend me enough to care. It amounted to Phoenix being stupid, Letterman being funny and it no longer being significant till I
saw the discussion here. I never went to a movie specifically for him anyway so going to see something that looks good to me that he might be in when
he's done with the experiment isn't much of an issue either.
