i'm not too up on motown, but be sure to check out some of the artists from memphis too... ann peebles, syl johnson, willie mitchell etc
i got into a lot of that stuff through the wu tang 'shaolin soul' comps which is just all the stuff that wutang sample in their beats.
all of that stuff is gold.

Check out the two disc set "A Cellar Full of Motown"
Some good stuff on there....not the hits, but totally solid.
Better than the hits in my opinion...but I am one of those nothern soul fruits.
