my Da...

my da was a big, strong polack...born in the south bronx..his da died when he was young from wounds fighting nazis in WW2...my da grew up taking care of his family.working for another, elder polack with one arm and a pension for smacking all that worked for him...my da's family owned bars in the south bronx...big,not fucking around polacks wearing white aprons and scowls that would make you piss your pants...my da had two brothers - stevie and stanley - and a sister - ronnie...i won't even go into that relationship..especially ronnie...cunt.

my da was my DA...as much as i'm "happy" that he's not suffering, anymore - the fact that i'll never see him again fucking kills me.

i don't know what you have,or don't - but i beg of you to let those you do love KNOW that you love them.

i got a chance to say "goodbye" to my da,last week...before he left...

but,i will always feel that it was never enough, nor done.

i will always love my da...

hurting like a heart attack, your friend,
paul

Edmund Poplawski, 74
by Staten Island Advance
Wednesday June 17, 2009, 8:51 AM

Retired electrician and Navy vet served in Korea

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Edmund Poplawski, 74, of Elm Park, an electrician and U.S. Navy veteran, died yesterday in Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton.

Born and raised in the Bronx, he also lived in Brooklyn before moving to Midland Beach in 1957. He lived in various neighborhoods, including West Brighton and Stapleton, before settling in Elm Park.

An electrician's mate second class, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, from 1955 to 1959.
Mr. Poplawski worked as an electrician at alarm companies on Staten Island for many years, retiring in 1999. He later worked as the superintendent of an apartment building.

He enjoyed fishing with his grandsons at the Midland Beach fishing pier and he also enjoyed caring for his American bulldog, Taz.

Talented with his hands, he could fix anything, according to his family.

He was a parishioner of St. Adalbert's R.C. Church, Elm Park, and a member of the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Martha (Chicky) Onofre; two sons, Thomas and Paul; a daughter, Sandi Marie Cacciatore, and three grandchildren.

Arrangements for a private funeral and cremation are being handled by the Scamardella Funeral Home, West Brighton.

sorry to hear about this Paul.
I know you and your family were going through a lot in recent days in regards to your pop's illness.
I agree with what you said. there's a few times I didn't get the chance to say goodbye or how i felt, or how things were, and wish I had.
stay strong .

Not that there's anything we can really do to help, but let us know if we can be a distraction for a bit. As others said, sorry for the loss. Good on you for making sure you the chance to say "goodbye" though. Less regrets that way.

Sorry Paulie. I don't know what I'd do without my dad. When his passed, we found him in his apartment, laying in bed for about two days. I was maybe 12 yrs old and the image of my dad crying is forever etched in my mind.
