New Slayer This Summer

Head bangers, rejoice: thrash metal titans Slayer have announced that their ninth studio album, World Painted Blood, will be released late this summer. The album will drop after the band wraps the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival tour with Marilyn Manson.
As the follow-up to 2006's Christ Illusion, the new album was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Greg Fidelman, who has previously worked with Metallica, Slipknot, and the (International) Noise Conspiracy.
Last fall SPIN.com joined Slayer in the studio and filmed the guys recording the new album. Watch our footage here.
Guitarist Kerry King told Billboard.com that the album is different than any they've recorded in the past. For one thing, King and fellow guitarist Jeff Hanneman both contributed equally to the writing process.
"I like when Jeff writes as much as he did for this record," King said. "When you have one guy doing most of the writing you only get one perspective. A lot of Jeff's stuff has a very punky vibe this time; the stuff I write sounds thrashy but with a hint of punk, and when Jeff writes the stuff is more punk with a hint of thrash. It works together well."
King also said that World Painted Blood is the first album the band has composed in the studio -- usually, the boys come in with songs already prepared, but this time, they wrote while they recorded. "I was kind of thinking, 'Man, this could be the first record in a long time that's got a little bit of filler,'" he said. "But I think every song came out great."
The 13-track album includes "Beauty Through Order," "Unit 731," "Playing with Dolls," "Public Display of Dismemberment," "Americon," "World Painted Blood," and "Psychotherapy Red," which Slayer released as a limited-edition seven-inch for Record Store Day on April 18.

I hope all the songs sound better than Psychotherapy Red, average and forgettable imo.

Yeah, I agree there was a LOT of filler on the last four, but Cult from Christ Illusion is one of the best songs they've ever written.

I think God Hates Us All was an incredible album from start to finish.

i kinda fell out of love for Slayer last time i saw them live and have struggled to get into their new stuff since then.
if the new album is anything as good as kreator's "hordes of chaos" it'll be a step in the right direction, but for me personally these days kreator piss all over slayer anyway.

^^^^^^^^^^ I agree. They ain't that great live. They do sound good so I guess that's what matters. I think many SLAYER fans would agree if they would be honest. Boring as fuck live.

They never used to be boring live. Seeing Slayer in the day was pandemonium. It's probably boring now because they're going through the motion writing shitty uninspired songs that only get the juggalos in the crowd worked up. No more crazies dancing with knives and shit like their heyday.

Last time I saw em a couple years back it was old folks in the back and people with purple yarn braids and hatebreed shirts up front.

That new kreator is shite too, but the album before that...enemy of god was fucking rediculous.

i can't imagine how slayer could possibly be boring live.
didn't the troc close down for a while after the club got TRASHED during a slayer show?

I have seen them several times and in my opinion the crowds suck dick. Drunk pieces of shit with no direction for the evening except to get more fucked up and scream "SLLAYYEERRR". I jam the tunes and have since the mid eighties, but seriously, the crowds suck at slayer shows and well. Watching Slayer play is like watching a really good band practice. No one moves. No one talks. Nothing, but tune after tune. And to add insult to injury. It's the same corny lame into to certain songs. The lame intros are as reliable as the same songs. Slayer fan sucks.

i saw them do the whole of reign in blood live once and that was nuts so in fairness they are never going to top that.

agreed on kreator's enemy of god - thats a fuckin perfect album.
