police academy = expensive

After a long process I received my letter of acceptance into the fall academy. I have to pay for this out of pocket without financial aide. Hopefully my broke ass will get a grant, but I won't know until the academy starts in September. The grant either way is minimal. I need to come up with most of this myself. So I must sell things. I called my local record store and let them know I may be in to sell cds and to please go easy. I am in there so much so I think they will be fair. However if any of you want anything that i might have just list it. It would take a week just to list everything. Name a band and I'll let ya know what I got.

Side note. Do you think I would fair better on ebay or selling locally? With all the sellers fees and shit it seems like a pain.

I also have some vinyl I would sell. I wont ask a rediculous prices as I am not trying to rip off my THORP homeys, but please understand I am selling something that means a lot to me and it is to move forward in my life. My wife and child need that.

clevo- If you set up one of those "donate to my cause" websites I'll donate for you. I've been there , hubby and I both make too much to get any financial aid so we spent years saving just enough to cover the next semester, paying for that and then starting again. I don't need your records. :)

and by the way..

I am SO proud of you for doing this. You Rock.

I guarantee the eBay fees will be less than the money you'll lose by selling to a record store. Exponentially. Pain in the ass yes, but if you need the loot why cheat yourself out of a bunch.

AHAHAHAHA. Thank you. That is really nice of you to say and to offer, but he thought of me "setting up" a donate site is funny. I have a hard time with transferring music files. I wouldn't even know where to begin with doing something like that. Plus, the pride gets in the way. Man I am really stressing about coming up with this money though. I've jumped through all the hoops needed and gotten so far. Big props to C. REED too for the workout and running info. It has helped tremendously. Now I have got to really hit it that much harder to become..............

I always assumed the Police Academy was free... kinda like joining the military. They don't make you pay for boot camp... at least as far as I know. Interesting. Good luck. From what I remember, this is a long time coming. I think I remember you talking about wanting to be a cop for a few years now. Glad to see you're still going for it.

I thought it was free too...
it's like, well in Philly at least, you're signing up for a job that you have the potential of getting shot at....

I think in some places it's free and in others you have to pay for it. If they hire you beforehand then they will pay, but you can pay for it yourself and you have a better chance of being hired because they don't have to invest any money into you, Is that about right Clevo?

That's exactly right. Most cities or townships in Ohio do not have the funds to hire and pay for the academy especially when many quit or fail. I know the city of Cleveland has there own academy and they pay for it, but you must live in the city. Outside of that everywhere else in Ohio you have to pay yourself. It's $4,000 and you must supply your own gun. It's a lot, but the pay will be good. Plus I can help correct some jackasses from doing bad things or at the very least play a part in getting them off the streets.
