can someone explain this phrase to a stupid german?
does it mean, birds of one kind?

I understand it to mean....

the word Birds is being used in place of people. And it means that people with similar interests or similar thoughts or similar looks or similar anything are usually together.

I guess that in nature birds that are the same type all fly together. Like Blue Jays with Blue Jays.... Cardinals with Cardinals.... Sea Gulls with Sea Gulls... etc.

so your explaination makes sense.

I always find it interesting when a phrase that just seems soo comon to one person in one area is not clear to others. Panzerkreuzer, do you have any odd German saying that we would probably have no clue or soome confusion about?

Like, a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush, don't count your chickens before they hatch, etc, etc... Curious to know if you have any ones we would be confused on.
