depends on how open you are. remember they are there to listen.

I can't do it, but I know a lot of people who do well with them. I was "made" to go when I was younger so I still have the "trick them into thinking I am sane" issues.

pretty much everyone i know in nyc sees a shrink.
many just go cause they like having someone to talk to...
not so much that they're trying to work through some significant life issue.
almost like the person has become a life coach of sorts, i guess.

If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

I went in my mid teens. It was initially me going, but then he insisted my parents go as well, for their own sessions. I guess it was helpful at the time cause i think they both had some major issues to work out. For me it was more or less a venting session. I may not have gotten anything out of it aside from getting my parents to put things in perspective and stop being a pain in my ass.
I almost considered seeing one not so long ago for depression and social anxiety issues. I ddn't casue it just cost too much. and the fact that i don't dig telling some complete stranger all my baggage casue i'm paying him to listen to it.
some people I know have found it to be helpful.
some people i know who were forced by either schools or the state / law didn't get much out of it casue in their case it was kind of institutional for lack of a better word.
I guess it is what you make of it / try and get out of it / expect from it.
If it makes things better, then awesome.

Since I bottomed out last year I've been seeing a shrink regularly. If nothing else, it gives me a chance to vent. I find the whole thing somewhat uncomfortable as I don't really enjoy talking about myself for an hour. It's had some benefit I guess, but nothing earth-shattering.

I do, maybe I should actually go. It'd relieve Mike and the rest of the band from hearing me at practice. :) They are my shrinks, and I don't even have to pay them.

Thorp board = my shrink.

I have wondered a few times if it would help or not but never enough to look into it.

Been to a few of 'em at various points in my life with varying amounts of success. Went to most of 'em when I was a "troubled child" and spent most of my time figuring out ways to waste their time. Obviously I didn't get much out of those sessions, but I've seen some really good ones at a couple of points in my adult life. It can be a huge help, but I'm of the opinion that there are quite a few hacks in the field that do nothing but run up bills and prescribe meds that will zombify most folks.

Spent a good portion of last spring talking to one. Fortunately school provided it for free. Don't really know if it improved anything but at least I'm a little more willing to be open about my issues, mostly depression and social anxiety.

I went for awhile then stopped,it kinda helped but they cannot erase the past and i'm selfaware enough to know what went wrong and triggered everything off, also i guess looking at the world in the way i do and always will does not help.I have a good handfull of people around me and i can talk to them very openly and i tell my girlfriend everything and she never judges me which helps hell of alot.

Living a life kept shut by a dream,
I'm reaching out to grasp my reality.
Hands of time wrap tight around my neck, and hit me so hard,
leaving me eyes black.
staring at a ceiling,
wondering why i never left,
penning words in a notebook,
wondering why haven't slept.
sanity is tapping in a cell
inside my fucking head.
begging for redemption
after hearing what was said.
the nights, they will not sleep
cause the days, have played for keeps.

I see a therapist about one a month and enjoy going to see him. I've had a therapist since 01' when I dropped out of college due to depression/anxiety issues. Like some have said its a venting session and should give you non judgmental opinion from an outsiders perspective. You could say therapists are there to help guide you to solve your own problems and I feel that my therapist does it very well. When I first started going I had a horrible therapist who I stuck with for 4 years until I realized I wasn't getting anything from her that was helpful. Now I've found someone who does help. So Gavin i'd say stick with it for a little longer, 8 sessions probably wont help to fix much but if you dont feel like you're getting help you can always look for someone else or stop all together as therapy isnt for everyone. Just my two cents.
