on the flip side of that emotion coin, i've gotten into more fights while listening to startweather than any other band. by a long shot. the songs take so fucking long to crecendo, by the time the do i can't fucking control myself any more.

"thanks guys."

Duane, you and my other misanthropic friends on the thorp board are making me feel better. the thing that was supposed to be announced today about the band is quickly falling apart and it's breaking my heart. I've never seen a band insight more violence than the mighty ALL OUT WAR!!!!!

i don't know what misanthropic means, but i will tell you that of all the fistacuffs i have engaged in while listening to starkweather, few have occured at actual shows.

remember that time in the mid-90s i was supposed to meet you guys in south philly to drive up to a show in poughkeepsie, but i never showed up? i was at a red light up in north philly when some guy on a bike rode by and hit the side view mirror on the plymouth acclaim. so i got out of the car and smacked him in the back of the head with a snapple bottle. guess what was in the tape deck at the time?

not six months ago i laid a guy out in the frozen food section of my local bodega while listening to croatoan on my ipod.

that shit ain't right, todd. it ain't right. the general public ain't ready for that, and i am getting too old for this shit.

Man, Duane, i always thought you were kind of a peaceful dude. It's fucked up when you're a dad or weeks away from a terrible birthday and you're still getting in scraps. the fucked up thing is that I used to care whether I won. Now I'll start with groups of people and just take a beating. it feels good. my last fight, 5 drunken mexican fellas, one broken arm, broken nose, fractured ribs, completely split open lip, but all that mattered to me was that i caved one of the motherfuckers heads in with one of those big ass hotel phones. I WON!!!

fortunately, we get most of our groceries delivered, so i don't often have to deal with the GP in the FS, but i was out picking up a few things and ran into one of those dudes that refuses to give an inch when there's not enough room to pass in an isle... three strikes, you're out.

--

this sounds like total cheese, i know, but...
when i saw rennie last week, i was telling him how after 9/11 and my kid's ordeal, i've really been trying to not let shit get to me. feels good overall, but clearly, there is still work to be done.

before that guy in the bodega, it had been YEARS since i was in a fight. i ain't gonna lie, i hate fighting; that shit hurts. and i always feel kinda depressed afterwards, like "why did he have to go and do something SO dumb, that i had to hit him?" that shit weighs on me for days afterwards.

i swear, i thought ren was gonna kick me in the nuts for saying that shit, but it's true. seeing those buildings come down, then walking home with my wife, people passing us all covered in soot and blood, wearing those useless little construction masks... that shit can't not have an effect on you. i've been trying to eliminate all drama from my life since that day. the way i see it, i've got one shot at being here, and i'm gonna enjoy it. if that's not hardcore enough for ya, i honestly don't care. i focus on me and mine and that's it.

cheesesteaks are, however, a close third... right behind steaks, which are, in turn, right behind "me and mine".

freshdirect.com. better quality and cheaper than the food store. nyc only, though.

it's called freshdirect and becaus they don't have a store and crazy manhattan rent, they can sell the shit cheaper than a grocery store. another good reason to never leave teh house. that reminds me, Apocalypse Now, when the dude leaves the boat and see the tiger...don't leave the boat was a starkweather motto when we played live. we tried to hide in the van as long as possible. duane, don't worry about the new strkwthr causing chaos. the way things are going it will never come out.

almost anything. the only genres i completely avoid are rap and techno, there's probably. on my computer i've got killing time next to kenny chesney and although ordinarily i wouldn't admit to liking cheesy pop-country, i really don't care anymore. my sister said if i was her kid she would have disowned me for that stuff, but she'd probably say the same for the punk/hardcore/oi/rockabilly/psychobilly/pretentious indie pop/semi-indie semi-mainstream/old country/oldies/whatever the hell else i listen to.

i agree with whoeever that was that said the new springsteen is incredible. i forked over a good-sized chunk of my paycheck to see him on the tour for devils & dust when he came to boston last month and it was easily one of the best shows i've ever been to, if not the #1 best.

whoops. guess i should learn to read past the first page, now this is about groceries.

The best song I ever heard by her was the song she did with the Chieftains called "The Foggy Dew." I have never heard her voice sound as beautiful and haunting as on that track.

Somebody a few posts up mentioned All Out War. I love that fucking band but I have to laugh because their singer shares the same name with the singer from Flock Of Seagulls. I don't know why I actually know that fruits name but it still makes me laugh, especially when considering how opposite the 2 bands are.

Loads of stuff... still into a lot of old 80's thrash bands like Nuclear Assault, Sacred Reich, DBC, all that kinda shit I grew up on alongside bands like Agnostic Front, DRI, Crumbsuckers, Suicidal. But other more laid back stuff like Bob Dylan, Johnny cash, Jewel, some old rock/metal like Rush, UFO and even a little rap/dance/reggae at times, it's all about the right music for the right moment.

Mood: HC & streetpunkrock

[*] posted on 6-3-2005 at 12:13 PM

besides HC, punkrock, and some Oi:
Springsteen, Anouk, K'S Choice / Sarah Bettens, some bits of jazz (Van Morrison), Audioslave, some U2. The base is rock or jazz.

What I absolutely despise is nightclub music and Timberlake, J-Lo stuff and cheap, hitlist, fake hiphop. The hardhitting rap from NY from the late 80s, early 90s kicked ass. The new stuff is waterdown, MTV, suck-my-d* shit. Although Eminem is cool fro kicking some shit in the established rap world.
