I think most states have counties. Louisianna has parishes.

it's that way because it's easier to say "welcome to the hicksville county fair" rather than hicksvillve municipality fair.

I used to work for a legal info service company that would search ownership or certian things in any county in the US. We had to maintain a network
for corespondents in ever one. Pretty boring stuff but hey, it finally became useful.
