had to have my ferret put to sleep last night

Definitly one of the hardest things I've had to do in a long time. I got him at a shelter and have had him for almost 7 years.

He had been kinda sick (blood suger I think) for awhile, but in the last few days he was barely eating or drinking and yesterday he started screeching and shaking and drooling. I think he was having seizures.

Brought him to the emergency vet and there wasnt really anything they could do. I got to hold him and took him home and burried him in the yard.

He was my first pet that I got as an adult and the first that I ever had to deal with getting sick on my own. Definitly a rough night.

Rest in Peace Chubby....

Really sorry to hear that Josh.

Sorry Josh. Putting down a pet is one of the hardest things I've ever done.

Sorry to hear about Mr. Fresh... I don't even want to think about having to put down a pet. Justin has to have his family dogs put down (or already did).

thanks guys.... its pretty tough cause the cage is still there so I keep looking in. I burried him in the front yard so I'll walk by him everyday at least and remember hes there.

The place was so nice about it (I know thats their jobs). They put him in a 'coffin' that was like a shoe box and it had flowers taped on the lid. When I got home I started digging, but couldnt dig a big enough hole for the box so I got his favorite blanket and wrapped him in that. It was tough cause he was already kinda stiff.

But in the coffin they had a disposable diaper and he was laid on that with the padded part as a pillow for his head and he had a small hand towel covering him like a blanket. it was really sad, but cute at the same time.

thanks again everyone

Sorry to hear Josh.

Yeah, it is the vet's job to be kind, but sounds like they went a little further with 'preparing the body'. Very sweet of them.

Losing a pet can break a man down, I've been there. Hold strong and take care, Josh.
