I'd go with the bike. I've never understood the love for scooters. Also, I too would look like Andre the Giant on a tricycle if I got on a scooter.

I'd go for the Triumph even though the Vespa is the more sensible choice for many reasons. Though, admittedly I've never ridden a bike, that Triumph looks like it could get real uncomfortable real fast.

those of you who have been to my neck of woods know what i mean when i say that a man on a scooter around these parts would be... unacceptable.

Triumph. I used to be a huge fan of scooters and had an old P200 for a while, but I never could get into the new ones at all. Those big wheels and cut away sides look silly to me. The economic side of it is awesome, that's a hell of a lot of bang for your gas buck, but I just can't get behind 'em. I love motorcycles now and Triumphs have some of my favorite styling right off the assembly line. That is one seriously sharp looking bike.

Oh, forgot that I wanted to relate this tale that neatly sums up the visual reference for us big fellas riding things like scooters. An old friend of mine used to go around to small rural towns and ask if people had any old bikes or scooters in their barns/garages/sheds/etcetera and offer to buy the decent ones for cheap so he could fix 'em up and resell 'em. He told me that he came across a lot of interesting folks doing this and then as an example, told me of this one guy in particular who had a really beat up but otherwise pretty choice old Vespa in his barn. The old guy talked about how in his younger days he had ridden the thing all over the country side and had a lot of fun just screwing around in fields on it. He then explained that although he didn't think it would be difficult to get the scoot running again, he would never ride it again because at his current size he felt he would look like a monkey fucking a football.

That story has always stuck with me and remains my favorite way of describing the appearance of larger guys on scooters and smaller bikes....

Triumph- no contest. A guy I ride with has a really nice Bonnie- tours on it extensively and loves it. Look into the scrambler model offered the last couple years.
Or if you really want to be bad ass get a 70s cb550.

If i got a 70s cb550, i'd just look like a douche bag like you then...

I'll have to see if i can gather up the cash in the spring for one. But at 6'-2" & 245lb, I'm going to look ridiculous riding whatever i choose. The Triumph isn't a big bike either.

We'll see IF the time comes on what i decide on.
