denis leary - bill hicks

Took material and delivered it better.

It's amazing how much is so similar or a "coincidence". Looking at these youtube vids and not being a Hicks fan yet, I can see what is at question. Wow, that is pretty bad.

It almost pains me to say it but i don't think Bill Hicks' material has aged too well.
I got a dvd with 3 of his sets and I just didn't find it that funny.
I used to really dig his stuff though and was lucky enough to see him perform in London once.

used to love Denis Leary too (apart from his 'songs' - jesus they were terrible), haven't seen any of his stuff for a long time though so not sure how great it would be now.

When Leary was starting out in Boston, he was well known for the practice of "lifting and switching" jokes from other comics, during a time when such a thing could get you your ass kicked in the green room. He was rather shameless about it, in fact, and even alienated some of his best friends from those days because of it. He's more or less made amends with the guys from his early days (including Lenny Clarke, Steven Wright, Louis CK, etc.), but Hicks died before Leary could make things right with him. Joe Rogan was on something of a crusade about it a few years back, but as Leary rarely, if ever, performs standup anymore, it's seen more or less as water under the bridge.
