We just got back from the wake, it was pretty tough. We saw the flowers there, the family was extremely appreciative. That was a great thing you guys did!

I was going to try and go, but it was a pretty long drive and with work I couldnt really have made it. I'm glad that someone from the board was there and that the flowers were sent though.

Hi everyone,

This is Joe's sister Anne. I wanted to thank everyone here for the amazing flowers you sent. It was a surprise for us to see them there - my mother was very emotional when she saw them & read the card, & I'm sure my father was bragging all night that a record label sent flowers for Joe.

We tried to do right by him for the service, & had the music that he loved playing, his music videos playing on a screen, some of his t-shirts on display (including various Boston bands), & some show flyers & posters, including a Sailor's Grave/Thorp poster - we also had a picture of him in his Thorp Warriors shirt. I think it was a nice service & a nice way to remember him - in a way he would have appreciated.

The response on the internet has been overwhelming, including on facebook & elsewhere. It has also been very comforting to read the things people have written, to know that his death affected so many people, & that so many people care. So thank you again, from the bottom of my heart.

Anne Macon

it was the least we could do Anne, I hope you're whole family is doing as well as can be expected at a time like this. Warriors stand together and Joe was an original Thorp Warrior... RIP

I've been offline and missed this until just now. Big D check your pal for Jonathan Stevens (my given name).

Joe was good people. He and I talked pretty often when I was more active playing music and there was some talk of him coming up to Halifax to do some video work and hang out. Thanks Duane for sending flowers, its the right thing to do and I'm glad you thought of it.

To his sister and family I'd like to share something. Its a poem, one that has gotten me through some very very dark times and one that I sent to Joe when he was having a hard time. I've pulled lines and put them into New Breed songs and read this whenever I'm feeling down, hard done by or weak.

DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT
Dylan Thomas

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

RIP Joe.

-Jonny

Joe Macon Memorial Page

This took me longer to complete than I would have liked, but here's a link to the memorial page we built for Joe. As long as there's a Sailor's Grave Records, this page will remain available. Thanks to TJ, Mark, Lenny, Nicole Tammaro and the Macon Family.

Feel free to share this with anyone else you think might be interested.

Great tribute, Dwayne. I didn't know Joe at all, unfortunately, but I know a lot of people who did. I'll share this with them.

That is a great memorial page for Joe. I didn't know Joe very well but I was fortunate enough to meet him and have a few great conversations with him at a couple of shows.

That's a really great tribute to him BD. For all of the difficulties he overcame in life, he earned it.

Guys, thank you so much for creating this. It really means a lot - it's incredibly touching, very emotional. & thank you Mark, Lenny & TJ for the nice things you wrote up about Joe. I've shared the page with my family over the past week.

holly is completely right - Joe would have been so giddy & excited to have seen this.

In case people haven't noticed, anne has also taking care of Joe's website at http://www.immaconmovies.org/ since he passed.

Even though I know it doesn't replace the loss, I am at least a bit happy that Joe's passing has brought anne and holly here into the Thorp family and both given them a place of comfort and allowed them to see that Joe touched a lot of us in his extended family who never even met the guy and only knew him through a message board.

anne and holly - BD is the man responsible for everything, but please let us know if there's anything the rest of us can do.
