the four or five times i've seen them since '96ish have been super sketch. music is always great, vocals are often...elsewhere. i'm just tryin to keep the memories of the earlier shows fresh!

HR used to live in the warehouse in baltimore where all of us hung out and practiced and stuff
he's quite funny and peaceful. sure out of his mind, but still sharp to say hey danny when he would see me

me & my cousin saw them when I lived in Portland OR in 07 or 08....such an amazing show. Ended up hyperextending my knee, but it was definitely worth it. I'd like to check out the Denver show hopefully, I gotta get another job first, my ski resort job ends tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up BD!

starting with the tour I saw was when they went back to their old songs I think....I remember hearing from some people before that who were a bit disappointed when they accidentally attended a Soul Brains show

Last time I saw 'em was pretty hard to handle, I don't know that I'm up for a six to seven hour drive for that again. Musically they were tighter than a gnat's asshole, but HR was gone. That was definitely worth seeing, but I'll hafta think about it before I shell out for the experience again. HR did have some funny shit to say, although I'm not at all sure that any of it was supposed to be funny. His singing was painful to experience at that show and even though I've heard good things about other shows he's done recently, I just don't think I'm ready to gamble like that. We'll see though.

I've only seen the once and it was recently. It was the last week of shows at CBGBs. I think BD saw them the night of the motorcycle helmet and I saw them the next day.

HR today is not the same HR as he was in 1979 or 1989, but like Gavin said even on his worst day hes worth seeing!

I'd still love to see them just for a chance to hear those songs live in person, regardless of how crazy HR is.
I think I saw them in high school at the Revival in Philly.
For one reason or another I can't quite remember, but I do have the vague memory of seing them pull up in a car and a bunch of smoke come out the doors when they got out.....

Just to clarify, I'm not saying I wouldn't like to see 'em again and hope for a glimpse of the old HR, but I'm not so sure about taking the time off work and making a 7 hour drive up, paying for a room, and driving 7 hours back when it's a total dice toss as to what sort of mood HR will be in.

I guess I'm one of the unlucky ones, last few times I saw them HR ruined it. Half mumbling and statue like. I found it really depressing because, like was said before, everyone else in the band was playing really tight.

Last time I saw them where everyone was on point and into it was with Israel singing.

yeah man , israel did a show for them in brazil, i think, a few years back. its on youtube. its like night and day, the energy level. i know people would be less inclined to see them with israel, but i dont think paying 30 or 35 bucks to "roll the dice"is worth it for me. they are just holding themselves back at this point.

The Israel show was a while ago. If memory serves it was on the Rise tour when they opened for Living Colour at the WUST. I've seen BB a few times since then and (I know its blasphemous) HR never matched Israels energy. Classic HR was unbelievable, I think that is what makes it so hard to watch.

i saw them a few times between 89-92 and they were amazing. swore i'd never go see them with a replacement vocalist and that if hr ever rejoined, i'd go whenever i could.

then, starting with soul brains in 97 through the last cbgb show in 06, it was, as saint and steve said, a roll of the dice...that i lost every time.

I saw 'em on that tour with Living Colour too. While Israel was much more into it than HR was the last time I saw him with the band, I was still more let down seeing Bad Brains with a different singer than I was by watching HR mutilate those songs. There's no replacement for HR in my opinion, I just wish he was the same guy he used to be.

moe-i saw a youtube video of israel in 07 or 08 i think. they did a weekend tour in south america and HR couldnt go for some reason, so they called him up. i guess i should probably see them before HR dies or something. i cant blame them for notdropping the name and HR and starting something new, since they are getting up there in age.
