They played The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1981 and I snuck in by carrying equipment in from a local band called The Fatalitees. Best memories? HR emerging from a cloud of smoke from behind stage and as the band started playing he stage dived and knocked EVERYONE on the floor over and made it back onstage in time to sing the first verse. Few live bands give me chills and the Bad Brains were one of them.

Here's the second time... they never really did anything for me either. Could never get why everyone raved about how good they were!

i always liked the bad brains. dr know's guitar playing was incredible, HRs vocals were insane. my favorite is the self titled disc (with the white house on the cover) and i aginst i...funny fact i read in a boof called american hardcore, the vocals to sacred love were sang over the phone while HR was in prison...that whole record was great...i remember seeing the soul craft video on headbangers ball back in high school. i never saw them live..wish i had though, but by time i was really into them, it was really time o pack it in.

word to the brains.

rock for light is my fav, it's just got soo many good songs on it.

I reckon I've spent more time in the past 5 years trying to play the sailin on solo, than looking at porn and eating food combined.

anyone remember when hr freaked out and hit a skinhead with a microphone stand?
the dude was just standing there watching them play and hr swung the fucking thing
like an axe and came down on the dude's head. the liner notes of the omega sessions
cd credits it with ending bad brains once and for all. (well, before soul brains) that
happened here.

He flippeed out here in CLEVELAND too. During one of his SOLO shows in 90 or 91. He jsut started throwing shit all over the place and left. What a fucking shame. Bad Brains were great. I still hope they pull it together.

I've always loved Bad Brains, I used to try to pick up on normal girls back when I was in high school and I'd tell 'em I was gonna throw on some reggae and then I'd play the Brains....it was always good fer a laugh, but it never did work out....

Favorite records would definitely be Black Dots, ROIR Sessions, and Rock For Light, they got kinda silly after that. Too much religion and HR's insanity kicked into overdrive...

I saw HR in a Denny's once back in Austin, he was sittin' in a booth with three or four little high school aged girls about an hour after they played a show on that first tour after he rejoined the band, that shit was funny.

The roir sessions are amazing

call me crazy, but rock for lights prod. on a lot of the material gets on my nerves - I FAR FAR FAR prefer the Roir versions of the songs that appear on both - I & I Survive kills on RFL however

Black Dots kicks ass

that Victory Records release (was it Omega Sessions or something like that?) kicks much ass too

an essential release (if you can still find it) is the "Live" album SST put out - it blows away "Youth are Getting Restless" and the other live releases I've heard - I got the cassette years ago and actually transferred it over to CD last year

"I Against I" is another essential release - this album makes me wanna get all spiritual and shit!!!! Too bad Stryper could never make such an emotional (that is truly EMOTIONAL and NOT widespread crapola adoration- and I have nothing against Stryper I just can't imagine them hitting the soul the way a song like "Let Me Help" or "House of Suffering" does) impact on the X-tian community they claimed they were always trying to reach -

I was actually disappointed when Quickness came out - in retrospect, I appreciate it more now than I did when it was released, but it's still nowhere near a match for the stuff that came before it.

I got the "Rise" album that doesn't have HR on it - it sucks minus maybe one or two halfway decent tracks

also, the God of Love album is crap - avoid it

Going way way back, I also have a couple of old 7''s that I think might have a song or 2 exclusive to 'em that are pretty fucking cool

I also have an HR solo album that I have actually never listened to a note of

the first Bad Brains I heard was "Rise" and it was terrible. I didnt listen to them again until I heard Rock for Light a while back. The production on that album is so thin, but the songs are awesome.

good fucking band.
